Growth Maturity at What Age? I've been wondering if there's a certain age that yorkies stop growing. I thought growing will stop between a year and 1 1/2 years. With them having a longer life span, do they also have a delayed growth maturity? Wandering minds need to know! (wondering- but it wanders too, so I'm leaving it-LOL) |
Usually they stop growing about 8 mos to a yr. Mine have put on some weight during later yrs but havent grown in length |
Full height and length ie the boney growth usually occurs anywhere from 8mths to 1yr old in the toy or small dogs. But full body weight and muscular development usually takes a bit longer, so it is not unusual to add anywhere from 5-10% of their one year old weight in the next year. And emotional and mental maturity might take even longer. :) |
Okay so, being a year old now, mine will stay the same in her measurments but she can still add some weight? I really hope this is the case. :) She needs some weight on her! |

Trick training to build up back and leg muscles wondefull too. Increase food amount proportionately to their activity level |
I agree with the bone structure usually stops by 8 months. That being said, Tameka (RIP) stopped growing in height & weight around 6 months. She was 10 when she passed and before she got sick she was exactly 4lbs. Her weight would go down a few ounces, but never went over 4lbs. Teeka will be 1 in a couple of weeks and she has not grown in height, length or girth since she was 6 months. She has and needs to add some weight. So, I think it depends on the dog and its bone or frame size when they complete their growth. |
I think Cinders added an inch in each direction from 8 months to 10 months, but she hasn't grown since. I really was hoping she was going to have 1 last growth spurt and grow just a little more. I'll just try to get her that last bit of muscle so she hits 3 lbs. :) Thanks guys for your answers. I couldn't find any info on the site about this! |
My boys are brothers and they had late growth spurts at 11 months. I think this is unusual though. Max developed muscle his second year, and Teddy really developed in his third year. He was really boney. |
