Jasper Goes To The Groomer I knew this day was coming. But now that it's here I'm a nervous wreck. We will be dropping him off in an hour. What if he thinks we don't love him and aren't coming back for him? I know he is going to be so scared. I am taking along pictures of how I want his face cut. That should help things. I'm just venting because I don't want Jasper to feel my nervousness rolling off of me. We will pick him up at 2:00. I'm already counting the time. :( |
Well, he certainly is cute! Jasper will be fine. You don't want to scare him, so get hold of yourself (LOL) and reassure your little man that you love him and don't let him know how nervous you are or that may alarm him...I assume you have a good groomer, so she/he will probably know hold to treat Jasper. This is going to be a regular thing (I assume), so you want to establish a pattern.....I'm sure Jasper won't feel abandoned, he won't be there long enough to "think" anything like that. This is something you are doing FOR him. I know how you feel, though.....we worry about our little babies. :aimeeyork I can tell you one thing.........I love my little baby so much, I WILL NEVER BE WITHOUT A YORKIE AGAIN. She is just unspeakably cute and adorable. :littleang |
Jasper will do just fine, and you will be very pleased with the results! Please post before and after photos! |
I had to go to 3 groomers before I found a good 1. Cinders never minded because there was always another dog there to bark at! The one I use now owns a yorkie. She brings her girl in when Cinders is scheduled and they get to play together! Now, if you asked how the humans felt dropping them off, I would say it broke my heart to leave her that 1st time. I was afraid they would mess up her hair or that she would be scared and cry. She wasn't scared, and that 1st one gave her a schnauzer cut. That's why I kept looking for the right groomer. :) |
Okay, I'm back home. He seemed nervous when we left. Of course, every human skinned female in the vicinity was oohing and ahhhing over him. But, this is the first and the last time we will use this groomer. 1) She said that the picture of the cut I took would not work on him because is hair needs to be curly. I took a picture of Teddy from YT (with her approval). 2) She would not let us leave his kennel for him or a toy or blanket or anything 3) Her attitude left a lot to be desired and 4) All she is doing is giving him a bath and a "sanitary cut". I don't like her. You know what they say about first impressions? I wanted to just bring him back home. But, the DH said to get this done. Then we start looking and interviewing potential new groomers. I thought this one would be really good since she works at the Animal Hospital where our vet is. I took a before picture and I will take an after for you guys to see. Poor Jasper. OH and we asked that we be called when he's finished and we'd pick him up. NOPE we can pick him up after 3:00!!!! Am I being unreasonable??? |
You are not being unreasonable. I also took a pic of Teddy when I got Barney groomed. Barney has straight hair, but my groomer gave the cut anyway. I think I posted his haircut picture somewhere and it looked great! The first grooming, I stayed with him and she only combed him and trimmed his nails and ear hair. His second grooming I left him and told her to call as soon as he was finished. I think she was happy to do this because he cries when he is kenneled. When I got there, she was nice but she made sure to tell me he cried and wanted to be held while he was brushed. She called him spoiled!!! He's not spoiled, he's a baby. Babies cry. He was only around 4 months old when he went. I've used her for several years with all of my dogs, but that conversation made me a little angry. |

I can't believe that she won't call you when he is done. That is just silly. I am with you. I would have not left him. That would have really would have given that girl something to think about. He will be fine. |

The other thing about leaving him there way after his grooming is over bothers me too. All 3 of the groomers I used called me as soon as they were finished grooming mine. The last one will call within 30 mins so Cinders can play a little after her grooming, but it's always Ok'ed when I drop her off. I hope you find a better groomer for your little one. That one sounds awful! :thumbdown |
Thanks all for the support. She is his "groomer" for the day...but only for today. I should have done better research on this. Lesson learned. |
I have also been frustrated trying to find someone that we like. Its really difficult to put that much trust in a stranger. We are scheduled with a mobile groomer next week, and if that doesn't go well I really might just give up and learn to groom them myself! |
I don't blame you one bit for being mad. So would I! I'm not trying to be ugly or anything, but I would not have left him there in the first place. She sounds as if she doesn't have good sense and she has more business than she needs---although I can't imagine how. |

I've been grooming Magnus/Zoey at home the past few times they needed it only because I don't like having to leave them there waiting. I know it's for their own good but I feel so guilty every time I look at them with those "why are you leaving without me?!" eyes. -_-; With that said, I did take them to several different groomers before but none have ever said no when I ask them to call as soon as they're done. The only time I was somewhat comfortable was when I left them at daycare. They had a groomer on weekends so they'll play with others while waiting for their turn instead of being crated and then I'd get the call as soon as they're done. WIN/WIN! Unfortunately, they don't have that service anymore b/c the groomer wanted to start his own business. They've been trying to hire a new groomer but they won't just hire anyone so it's taking a while. It's hard to find the right groomer that you'd be happy with... Magnus/Zoey don't get the best looking cuts by me but at least I know they won't be too stressed out. Plus, they don't seem to mind the unevenness. LOL |
