Barking Too Much!! Hi Everyone! I have currently started working more at home which I love so I can be near my Yorkies! :D But I forgot one thing.. One of them is absolutely crazy and barks and barks and whines and cries for no reason when I am trying to work on important things and answer phones. I do not know what to do! I live in a small condo so I can't just go to the other room especially since hubby is still resting (he works nights). So I find myself going and working out of my car or coffee shop  so my clients don't think I run a puppy store as well Lol I just don't know what to do. She's always been this way, I remember when I was in college she was like this, I thought it was just a puppy stage so I ignored it and kept studying with the occasional 'SHH!" or a 'Hush!' I pick her up and put her in my lap but I sit at a high top bar stool and she's so clumsy she would fall. I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do! |
I am just asking the advice of others who have barkers like mine. Any suggestions will help. She can't possibly be bored because she has a playmate, and toys galore. She gets so much attention that she gets annoyed and doesn't want to play or have anything to do with humans. She just barks non stop for no reason. |
We have a bunch of barkers on my home and my friend works at home right now. They bark at the door bell they bark at the telephone. I spoke to my vet and she said the only way to really stop this is to send them to training school. Some people depark their dogs but I think that's disgusting. So right now we just deal with it. We have a house so it's not as bad as the situation you are in. |
No way I could debark her either! That is terrible. Thanks for your thoughts. Training school is a good idea! I will look into it. :) |
I feel the same way about debarking as I do about declawing a cat. Good luck with the training. But remember! Persistence~ I think Magnus/Zoey would be a lot better behaved if I can be more strict and persistent with them. |
I trained Liberty with the "shhhh" command from the start. It has certainly saved me lots of headaches! We used tiny pieces of treats initially and now reinforce with praise and "tickles". It can be taught at any age with patience. Keep us posted! |
Is your pooch crate trained? Dori has a crate for sleeping and one in my office. If she barks for no reason I give the hush command with a physical hand signal. Sometimes she will run around barking at the gardner or a bird. I point to her crate and say GO! She runs in, I close the door and walk away for 30 seconds. If quiet, I quickly return and reward her for "good" quiet. I guess my point is it takes a lot of time and consistency to get results. |
I read on here the other day that someone was using 'canned air' called Pet corrector and it was working well. You might want to check that out. The Company of Animals Pet Corrector at PETCO Also just putting some coins in a coke can and shaking the can while saying 'quiet' when they start barking will sometimes quiet them. |
I tried the pet corrector and it works amazing. I tell the dogs quiet and if they don't stop barking I spray the pet corrector in the air and they stop and then I say good girls quiet. Now all I have to do is say quiet and they stop. |
Gigi loves to bark at anything and everything. Tried water, hid behind people and furniture, kept barking. Tried a dog whistle, no luck. Tried the pebbles in a can. She would just look at me like I was crazy. After reading on YT, I went to PetCo. and looked around, finally tried "Quit It". So far it seems to be working the best. What ever you do, it will take time and patience. Good luck. |
The Pet Corrector worked pretty good for me too. He will still start to bark but not crazy barking like before and he's not afraid of the can but he does stop once he hears the noise. I use it sparingly so it's not something he just gets used to. Good luck! |
This works on many stubbron barkers :Amazon.com: Pet Parade Dog Repeller and Training... |
I looked at reviews for Pet Corrector and similiar products. I tend to read the bad reviews first to see what sort of issues/problems people run into that didn't work for them. I think one of the most common complaints was that instead of getting the dogs to cooperate, it upset them even more and as result, would bark more. I feel like Magnus would be the type to get more upset so I'm hesitant to try... I do have something similar to Pet Parade and have tried it on both my pups. Does absolutely nothing. They either bark more or look at me for like a second and go back to what I'm trying to stop them from doing... |
