This is one of the saddest thing I have ever seen. My heart is breaking for this poor baby and all others like her. |
Greeders who breed for "tinies" and have resultant pups like this should be arrested and prosecute for animal cruelty. JMO. Poor Safari. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers and hope her dental goes smoothly. |

And this is why we get upset with people who come here wanting a 'teacup' yorkie. These poor pups... |
aw poor baby! I couldn't imagine- too small to even draw blood from! Poor thing, at least she is with vets and people that care for her, I will keep my fingers crossed hoping for the best. |
This makes me so angry and sad for the poor babies!!! I'm in tears typing this....I shared this on my Fb page as well. |
Safari's dental has been cancelled. The vet wants her to meet with the board-certified dental specialist before they move forward. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he's seen something as horrific as her mouth before (as sick as that sounds), and he will have an idea how to best proceed. :( I posted my own mini-rant on Facebook, but I will copy and paste it here too, so others will hopefully see it and think twice when seeking out a "teacup." Here it is: This is why I cringe when anyone tells me they want a "teacup" or asks me how much Rory and Lane weigh (who are virtual giants in the Yorkie world - giants that can still be safely secured in a carrier to travel in cabin on planes with me). I know for some it is ignorance, and once they actually educate themselves and see just how "big" a five pound dog is that they are horrified at the prospect of owning a pup half that size or less. But for many, their selfish desire for a gerbil-sized dog outweighs the pain and suffering these dogs and their puppies face at the hands of these so-called tiny breeders. These greeders shoulder much of the blame, but the people who seek them out knowing all of this are just as complicit. My hope is to educate the ignorant people, so they too will stand up and give a voice to these innocent animals and to hopefully make those who intentionally seek tiny dogs out think twice. Money is a very strong-motivator, so I don’t think there is much that can be said to change the mind of these greeders who breed for deliberately tiny dogs. I get it. Many of us are programmed to think tiny is cute, but there is nothing cute about the health issues many of these dogs endure. And even the “lucky” ones that are healthy are much more likely to be injured by things that wouldn’t be nearly as threatening to a larger dog. While it’s true that on rare occasions reputable breeders may find themselves with a puppy that does not mature to the adult weight they would like, it is not the norm, and the homes these dogs are eventually placed in are not ones that would try to capitalize on the small size of their dog. I’m beginning to think a toy breed dog’s weight should be like a lady’s weight. You know better than to ask a lady what she weighs, and most ladies who are willing to share are just trying to brag. ;) I beg of everyone to stop coveting tiny dogs. Do it for Safari, a little love muffin, who is so undeserving of the hand she’s been dealt. |
One of the zillions of typical "teacup" sad stories that greeders are creating. What a horrible agony to doom a puppy to such a troubled life for money. Shameful, disgusting greeders! Go soak your heads and get a clue you are abusing dogs by these dreadful breeding practices. I will now shut up to avoid being banned. |
Thank you everyone for caring about Safari and spreading awareness. I have been fostering her and this is a very emotional and difficult time. We are doing everything we can for her and can only hope it will be enough. She is a strong little fighter and I hope for a miracle! |

I too saw this on FB. My heart aches for that little one. Thank you for fostering her. |
Whoever bred her should be put into the same cage she was in.....and denied medical/dental care.... |
For those of you following Safari monday will be her big dental. The aim is to pull as many teeth as they can in one surgery. Its going to be a very tough day. Please keep her in your thoughts. She will need every bit of it. Yorkie Rescue will be updating their facebook page with her info monday as she has surgery and her recovery. Also the specialist doing the surgery posts updates of the xrays and surgery pictures which will be shared on the yorkie rescue facebook page as well. I am very interested in seeing her xrays and such we havent been able to really get in and examine her mouth because she gets very agitated. We are really hoping the jawbone has not been to compromised by decay and teeth roots are short. Here is the link to the facebook page for her updates https://www.facebook.com/rescueayorkie |
Keeping Safari in my prayers, hope the dental procedure will be successful, all the best for the sweet little girl! |
