Godzilla Puppy? Hi, Chewie and I recently took a trip to the vet's. He just turned 4 months old. The problem is he is SIX POUNDS! I've heard of yorkies sometimes getting big, but never this big. Is this common or unusual? Any ideas of how big he'll get? Neverless, he's my little chewie and I love him just the same! |
He will probably be about 12 pounds when fully grown. Seven pounds or under is the rule for show dogs. Lots of people on this forum have bigger Yorkies. You will love him just as much as a tiny, and probably have fewer health problems. So----enjoy! Pat |

Bo is the same age and weight as your baby. Granted, most people that buy a Yorkie are expecting a very small dog, but I don't consider a 10-12 pound dog average either. My miniature Schnauzer is 8 years old is at his ideal weight at 25 pounds. So, obviously will be a big difference in size between them when Bo is full grown. I expect Bo to weigh 10 pounds at maturity, which is double his 12 week weight. Several breeders on the forum use this guideline as an estimation of full-grown weight. I wouldn't trade Bo for any other pup in the world! |
My mom had a GIANT yorkie WITH papers he was 14 pounds! u could carry him on the hip like u would a child.... he had floppy ears but he was ohhhhhhhhhhh so cute... we used to put him in the backseat of the car with a seatbelt on and he looked like a kid sitting there he was adorable and spoilt rotten with the typical yorkie behaviour and so friendly, he loved everybody that came to visit coz they all came "for him" is what he thought lol we still miss him badly! Many many many yeard ago yorkies were much bigger than the ones we see today, that why i think some yorkies just get bigger than other (mojo outweighted both parents by 2 lbs for exp.) That doesn;t mean he is not purebred and doesn't mean he will be less loved!! You love ur lil guy and that IS what really matters! |
lmao.... brownies mom has a 20lber!!!!...... as for toby he is 6 months and he is about 9 lbs (i think....... at 5 months he was 8 lbs).........and now that you mention it: he was 3 lbs at 3 months, 4.5 lbs at 4 months..... wow, he doubled his weight between 4 months and 5 months |

Our FiFi is 7 years old and 14 pounds!!!! She's so beautiful with her long silver blonde hair! Our Gidget is 7 1/2 years and weighs 8 1/2 pounds and Jazzy is 4 and is about 6 pounds. So we have all sizes. :D |

My Jessie is 10 months old,almost 9lbs and STILL growing! lol.She was 2lbīs at 8 weeks,so we tripled that and thought she would weigh around 6lbīs,but here she is as chunky as they come,and you know what..I LOVE it that way!! :animal-sm We dont have to worry about stepping on her like we do with Lady,or worry about her getting hurt when we play with her,she is 9lbs of fun and games and I wouldent have it any other way;) |
Max is 5 months & 6.5 lbs...He was just under 4lbs at 12 weeks, which would put him just under 8 lbs full grown, by the 2x 12-week weight. That's roughly the same as the estimate our vet gave us for him at his 1st appt (8 weeks). A friend of ours has a 25lb Yorkie. He's adorable, enormous compared to Max, but that Yorkie personality is undeniable... |
My Shelbie weighed 11 pounds but she still looked small, when you think of it, know matter what the weight yorkies are small dogs. there are alot of super tiny ones but I would guess there are alot more bigger ones. if you are not going in the show ring then I would not worry about it. no matter what the size a yorkie is a yorkie and they are all woderful!!!
