T-Shirts and Matting... Hi Everyone! Just a quick question... How do you guys keep from getting those nasty matts under the arms and under the belly while your babies are wearing clothes?? I put shirts on mine and have to take them off after about an hour or its going to be miserable for both me and my puppies trying to get the matts out. Any ideas on how to avoid this issue? I haven't been able to give Taka a bath in about 2 weeks since his surgery and he is so matted from the E-collar and on his belly, I might have to actually shave him to get them out!:eek::eek: I don't want to shave him, any ideas on that also? |
Tatiana wears clothes most of the day and she doesn't get mattes from the clothes. I do comb her out every morning. I think it depends on the length of the yorkies hair. Teeka will get mattes under her arms, but I don't let them get bad and comb her daily, if not more. I do use a detangling spray when needed. It is easier to keep up on the combing, than letting days go by and them having to try and get the mattes combed or cut out! |
I use wen on pixie and it makes her hair so silky. I also brush her in the morning and evening. |
None of my kids mat when wearing clothes, but they are all silky. Sorry you're having so much trouble. You might try a little natural oil on the rub spots before dressing them...maybe coconut oil or 'Montana' emu oil...just the very lightest touch of the oil. It won't hurt them if they lick it, and it will be good for their coats as well. |
I think when you keep there hair long you can have that problem. I keep Callie in a puppy cut because she gets so cold easily and needs clothes on and would mat plus she just doesn't have the personality for long hair. |
It's best to keep the arm pit area trimmed, I use blunt nosed scissors. You can also keep their belly shaved/ trimmed along w/the inner thigh area, it's considered high rubbing areas. Brushing or trying to work out a mat in these areas are very sensitive for them. |
When Cinders gets matted from her clothes, I work on the knots for a short time about 3 or 4 times a day. Leave in conditioner helps with the really bad ones. Make sure( if you use that) to have a bath time planned shortly after using it. I know it's supposed to be left in, but I worry that her skin will get irritated, so I wash it out after the knots are gone. |
