Diapers Thoughts on diapers?? I hate leaving Miley at home but she's not potty trained and doesn't use her pad all the time but when i'm at my friends house or somewhere she can be I feel so guilty and think about her all the time. Are diapers really okay to put on a dog? I just feel like she might be uncomfortable because I mean she is a dog. But until she's potty trained that'd be the only way to get her places with me. |
I've never tried diapers on any of my dogs. The closest I've came to covering Cinder's bottom is the onesie. She's ok with that. When you go to a friends house, is there a place to take her outside to do her business? |
I wouldn't want diapers on for urinary purposes. It holds that moisture close and may lead to infections or her becoming okay with being wet. I think diapers are mostly used and meant for females who are in heat and bleeding. |

It may hinder rather than help her potty training. If you ever do get some diapers though i have seen some cute ones with lace fringes on the back from YT vendors |

if she is peeing on the bed she may just not have good control of her bladder muscles yet |

Before mine was fully trained, she pee'd in her bed. I think she was excited when she did, because she was waiting for me to get a new toy ready for her. (dang tags!!) So they can pee in their beds. Make sure you talk with the vet about potty training issues on Thursday though. Maybe it's her UTI and potty training will get better when it clears up. I hope she get's well soon. :) |

I agree that diapers will only hinder potty training and set you both up for a lot of misery in the long run -- including infections. |

When you leave her alone, do you leave her in a small space? You say she sometimes doesnt potty on the pad? If they have too big of a space they will potty in other areas- best to leave them in a small space. |
Courtney get the puppy apartment! Too much space and she will pee anywhere! |

My jewels is that way she wont be contained and wouldnt no matter how long we tried to make her get used to it she never got fully housetrained either. we have a rug in our bathroom she goes on. we just put a pee pad under the rug and wash the rug when needed |
I was going to suggest you take a foldable small playpen when you visit your friends but I just read that she dislikes being in it. Maybe if you try to bring the playpen to your friend's house she would like it knowing she is near you and then make it easier for her to get used to in your own home. It really helps in housetraining!!! |

IME I used a belly band on Moki when I went places =ppl house. I would take him out ect..Sometimes he would have an accident. The was a fem pad in there. But when I got him home I always washed him really good. In a new place they may not know how to tell you they need to go or maynot. IMO if you used a diaper took them to a friends how. Let them out to go...ect If they did go in the diaper you can clean he up right away. I would leave one on he home alone. But like you said when you can take her with you. To me that's better then leaving her home. She will be able to control it when she gets older. I mean shes gonna pee with the diaper on or off. Doesn't matter imo. Being with you is important imo |

You can get one on amazon. I bought 2 Best Play Pens-one for my car to take along when I visit my family or friends and one for my house. It's large enough for a bed and a wee wee pad. |
Courtney, They always cry in their crate...at first, they just have to get used to it. Later they will love it. I know it's hard to let them cry, and it may even take more than just a day, but they will get used to it, and later feel very safe there. If you are at home or at a friends, just keep miley on a long leash attached to your belt or around your waist, and that way you will see when she needs to go to the bathroom, or is getting into something she shouldn't. If she's free in your room sh will only learn to go wherever. |
I used diapers when mine were in heat. I did use them with Zoey during the last 1-2 months before she passed because she was sick and it could not be prevented. She had renal failure and would pee every 30-45 mins. She would be walking to the door to signal she needed to go out and would be peeing as she walked. Mine have never used a wee wee pad. They are outdoor trained. |
