Is 8 months a bit late for teething? I have been checking Sam's teeth almost daily because it looks like he is hoarding teeth! His vet wanted to wait as long as possible to do his neuter and see if we could avoid a lot of extractions. I've noticed the last few days his ears are drooping a bit. At first I chalked it up to being sorely overdue for a grooming. But this morning I noticed that he seems to be having trouble chewing his kibble. Usually he's like a rock crusher mowing through them. This morning he's been biting down really gingerly. He barely ate any at all yesterday. Thoughts? Is there a chance the puppy teeth could still come out on their own? I don't want to wait any longer for his neuter. He's starting to mark, and I will also have to start keeping him away from his play dates with Piper. Mom wants her spayed before first heat, and I'd rather have them both done at the same time. They will be 8 months on June 30. |
I think a quick vet check is in order to see what's going on inside his mouth--the lack of appetite and chewing gingerly is disturbing. It could be normal with the loss of a batch of puppy teeth, but have it checked out, just in case. Better safe than sorry. |
Thanks, Phil. I have to take him for his pre-neuter blood work anyway, so I'll definitely get Dr. Ted to peek at his teeth. And there's no question of loss of appetite. He gobbled down his soft food breakfast like a champ, so I just gave him a little extra. |
I know Galen's teeth are still coming in and he is a little over 7 months. So it might be that. Have your vet check it out |
Not at all, Joel is 1 and a half and still teething lol |
My dogs were teething at that age also. In fact, my boy still had couple of retained teeth even at 1.5years old. When I took him to the vet, they told me that his baby teeth were very lose and recommended that I try to move them back and forth for a week and I they don't come out then get them pulled by the vet. The vet said that it is better if I can get them to come off naturally than put him under anesthesia unnecessarily. |
