They may be normal in a few areas, but not most. The first thing Iask myself when seeing an owner pay next to nothing regularly is, "What is the vet leaving out?".
Sure, surgery can be done cheap, but I'd have to wonder...are IV fluids not geing given? Gas anesthesia not heing used? Monitoring not being done? No dedicated person to focus Only on your pup's vials while under?
Hospitals without xray or those who haven't upgraded to digital xray will be cheaper..but not better for the pet. I think onsite u/s is very important. Dental xray is necessary if we are going to start pulling teeth. Most places don't have it. I prefer endoscopy on site also.
So it has to do with location, but also the standard of care that each owner expects. If they get great pricing and have done research, great! I know at some of these prices given my vet would not have a paycheck at the end of the week. |:thumbup::thumbup:
GREAT post. Vet care in Phoenix metro is most definitely not cheap. However, I have found it's fairly priced - given their operating costs, their skill, their nice facility. Consider what their overhead is and the staff they need etc - it's not cheap. Vets do not make a ton of money...so they don't charge bc they're trying to make these exorbitant profits and salaries...they'd be out of business in a heart beat if they charged merely for great profits, bc it wouldn't happen.
