I would split his feedings up- Yes I think he should have food down, but I don't think you should put all of what he needs at one time.

Our problem was if we left her 3/4 hours we'd come home and the bowl could've been full when we left and it would be GONE every last bit lol so either she eats out of bordem or stress , either way she's a typical woman ;) haha

This pretty much how we do it. I measure out the food in the morning and then put 1/3 in her bowl , I leave the bowl there and then added the next 3rd in the afternoon and the last to it in the evening. I don't take away the morning food if she doesn't finish , but if she does I don't give more until next feeding

I think I'm going to start doing this tomorrow. I didn't think about doing it this way for some reason. :) I've been feeding him too much too. I've already got a little cup with the measurements written on the side of it form 1/4 to 1 cup. :) I'm at home all day also, so I will be able to do this routinely.

Orijen's website says 120 grams=1 Cup. Should be about the same with your food.

Orijen guideline for puppies start at 4.4 lbs weird. I guess 3lbs puppies don't count? :-/

Generally speaking, free feeding your puppy should be fine but 1 cup seems a lot to me. What dog food are you feeding your puppy? Usually, you feed a smaller portion if it is high protein % food but a bigger portion if it's low protein % food.

He is eating Pro Pac Small Breed Puppy food. I did find out today that he is only supposed to be getting 3/4 per day for his age and weight. Also, I saw that his puppy food has 31% protein.

Seems like alot. Moki is 15mo 7lbs and he gets 1/3c but he gets fresh food also. I keep tabs of his weight. He would be a Hippo if I free fed him. He was on the Chunky size then I started to measure his food. Letting your dog get to heavy can cause problems later. Just like in ppl

Sometimes dog food bags aren't accurate. They want you to consume more. But the body test is the way to go. Everything is a guideline.

I checked out this chart and he is definetely ideal for now, but it feels like he mighty have a little extra meat on him. :) I cut down on his food today and he did fine with it.

Its fine for puppys to eat alot but don't let them get to fat. Lean and mean is healthier. Fineky dogs free feeding work. i had a Pom I free feed because you would never know when he want to eat if he did. Both my Yorkie s no way. The are piglets. They would eat until there bellies hit the ground

I like that little Hippo :D:D
Mickey would be the same, so we don't free feed
