Yorkie full breed question Hello, I was wondering I have a 1 and 4 months Yorkie. Her ears do not "stand up" and I was told it is because she is not full breed. I was told by the breeder she is 100% but she did not provide me with any paper work or anything proving that she is... I mean I do not really care I still LOVE her but I just would like to know. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :animal-pa:animal-pa |
Did you see your pup's parents? Did their ears stand? Debbie (Tea', Katie and Paige) |
Hi, Honestly I do not remember.. I guess I did not pay close attention to the details... I just thought they were super adorable and that's why I got her... |
It doesn't necessarily mean they aren't full blooded. Many Yorkies ears don't stand up. YT is full of adorable babies who have the floppy ears. Gracie Ruth & Yogi's ears went up and down until they were about 6 or 7 months old, maybe even a little later, I really don't remember exactly. I just made sure to keep the hair on the ear tips clipped short so that the hair wouldn't weigh them down. They go up and down during teething, too. Can you post a picture of your cutie? |
Hello and welcome to YT. Congrats on your little fur baby. |
Floppy ears are adorable. They do not mean a dog isn't fully the breed, there are so many cuties with floppy ears. You could try shaving down the hair on the ear of the pup to see if the ear might be weighed down by the hair and or tapping. |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. When yorkie pups are teething the ears can go up and down. Sometimes you have to work with the ears to get them to stand. You need to keep the hair shaved on the ears and also taping them will often help. Usually if the ears are not up by 6 months they are not likely to come up. Although I think some yorkies are adorable with floppy ears, it is really best to try to get their ears up because it will lessen their chances of getting ear infections. You can do a search on google for 'taping yorkie ears' and you will find a lot of information on how to do that. Can you share pictures of your pup? |
A Yorkies ears standing has everything to do with genetics and the thickness of the ear leather....I start shaving the hair off my dogs ears when they are 4 weeks old, and continue to keep those ears as light as possible! If the ears are not standing by 10 weeks old, I will tape them, to help them stand....they will often go up and down during teething! |
Sorry everyone... My Yorkie is 1 year and 4 months... Does anyone knows if there is anything I could do to help them stand up?:animal-pa |

Welcome to YorkieTalk! At her age, most likely her ears won't stand... But that doesn't mean she's not purebred. |
I'm new too :-) Yay for your babies :-) I just rescued mine and he's a little older but I do know he is purebred, long story on how they know, but his are half and half. Half of his ear is straight and the top quarter flops over lol. I heard they have to bind the ears to make them stand all the way up, might be wrong on that. |
