flea med Hi All..... What kind of flea meds are we now using. I used to use Frontline Plus...my 2 are about 6lbs each. I heard Frontline causes problems with some dogs. Our Vet is not using Frontline anymore. I think I am going to go back to using it and getting it from Petsmart. Anyone still using Frontline or what other kind? Tina |
There will always be at least one dog who doesn't do well on certain stuff. Frontline does not work where I live so we use Advantix II |
I am using Vectra right now per my vet recommendation. My girls have used it last year and this year with good results. |

My vet isn't using Frontline any more either. However, it is because he said it wasn't working as well in our area as others. He didn't mention pups having problems. Walmart carries Frontline Plus in my area. |
In WA (west of Mts.), Frontline Plus works great. But my vet says when Dori starts traveling with us to east coast, we will need to beef up her flea and tick meds and even consider the Lepto vaccine. He also says there is soon to be on the market a "super" Frontline (different name) that had good reviews. I'm still sorting it out. She weighs 7.5 lbs and has always done well with Frontline Plus once per month. |
I use advantage I get it from Petco |
I give mine Comfortitis once a month and have for a year and half and have had no problems. |
I'm using Revolution for Bella, but I try to avoid taking her to places where fleas hang out. |
I use Frontline Plus and had never had fleas on my girls and no problem with in. My Sheltie did get Lyme from a Deer tick. But my Vet told me useing any of these flea and tick products they could still get biten by a deer tick and get lyme. No product you use is going to be 100% (Kinda like the birth control pill for people being 99.9% there is alway a chance). |
Flea I use Frontline plus, works well in SoCa. |
I was using Trifexis, but I started hearing horror stories about it and switched to Sentinel. It's a monthly tablet, and it fights heartworms, a couple different types of intestinal parasites, and fleas. I found that it's actually more cost effective than Trifexis too (I told the veterinarian that I wanted to make the switch and they sold me 6 months worth for dogs under 10 lbs for $31 -- not too shabby!). No problems thus far -- knock on wood! The only thing is I'm not entirely certain if it controls ticks. I found out Trifexis didn't have any effect on ticks when I started looking more into it after hearing rumors of problems in people's dogs. |
I'm using Advantix II for under 10 lbs & so far, so good. This is only the 2nd month I've used it b/c I've only had Milo since late March. The ticks in our area (central eastern Alabama) have been really bad this year . It is supposed to repel ticks, flea & mosquitos and/or kill a tick within 10 minutes after it bites, so they don't guarantee against an initial bite. I try to check Milo by combing him out each morning after we walk & after he is outside to do his business. I'm rather paranoid about those darned ticks. |
I'm in Northern VA. Been using Advantix II with good results but now, not so much. As a matter of fact, I found a semi engorged tick on Magnus's face which was about 1" below his face. Poor baby has a big bump in that area now... One of my neighbor uses Vectra and he said he found a huge engorged tick on his dog not too long ago. Don't know if the tick was the cause but Buddy's (neighbor's dog) been really sick and was on meds. He's MUCH better now but goodness... I saw him for the first time in weeks and he was so skinny. So now I'm even more paranoid. *sigh* |
Mine has been taking this for about 6 mo, but we have had fleas twice. We've bombed our whole house and our vehicles (we stayed some place else for two night). Plus shampooed her with flea soap. We just gave her a flea pill and two weeks before that the oil on her neck. Mt vet said I,was shampooing her to much. So in the last three weeks she has only had one bath. We went to my Moms tonight and her out door cat had them and I've been picking them off all night.... I don't know what to do.... Help please.. |
My family's lab got Lymes disease and we used Frontline on her every month. Hoping to get the shot for it in July before we take Toby camping. I found several fleas on him after bringing him home from the animal shelter, so after a bath and vacuuming his coat, and washing everything in the apartment I put him on Petarmor, which is the same ingredients as Frontline and I've only seen 3 on him since last Saturday and he hasn't scratched today or yesterday. |
Bailey is about 8# hardy and healthy. I never see any fleas. It is so strange. Just once when he was a pup a saw 1 or 2 but none since then. I go thru the motions of using advantage, but he is wet and bathed so much I doubt its effective. Has anyone ever had that situation? I am in Florida. Because of the getting wet all the time, I tried comfortis(with the hope of going to Trifexis) and he threw it up a couple hrs later. This could get expensive "trying" to do this as my vet suggests. Any other flea products like Flex-Kit ever been effective? |
I've been using revolution for the last year on all 3 of my cats, and yesterday the vet gave me revolution for Gizmo. He also gave me a tiny needle less syringe so I can erasure out the exact amount because of his small size. It has worked amazing on our pets. Her in so california the fleas have become immune to advantage and frontline. |
dog I use Revolution with no problems. My friend got the cheap Costco brand of flea med for $19.99 and her dog has fleas. Do Not Buy This Stuff. It doesn't work. Many complaints on line about this stuff. Fleas are bad this year so I hope you choose something that works. |
