swimming yorkie? so in an effort to get Hermes adjusted to life in the D, i opened up the pool today and the kids got in. BRRRRRRRRR but we decided to train Hermes in a trial by fire. tossed him in and sink or swim :) we didnt but it was entertaining, he swam between both kids then looked like a drowned rat :) i dried him off and he is happy next to me chilling out |
Why would you toss a yorkie into cold water??? I don't find this funny at all. |

no that is not funny |
I think the OP said after all they didn't toss him in. And I am gratefull for that. Dogs and people need to learn to swim at their own pace. I spent 3 years trying to get one of my dogs to actually swim. She finally did. On her own, And then she went in all the time. Fear is a funny thing. I believe you give the opportunity to overcome, with lots of support, encouragement and patience. For swimming that means life jackets, lots of praise, and consistency on your part the human. |
people we introduced him to the pool with both kids, the water wasnt cold and you have to remember i joke around a lot. i would never endanger my dog :) |
You may be joking but you got to remember some people would really do it so thats why you got the reactions you did |
They have some really great doggie life jackets. You might want to look into purchasing one. I know people have lost pups in water situations before. Many dogs enjoy the water but a life jacket on is the safest bet. |

Understand, this is what you said: so in an effort to get Hermes adjusted to life in the D, i opened up the pool today and the kids got in. BRRRRRRRRR but we decided to train Hermes in a trial by fire. tossed him in and sink or swim You might think it was funny, but YT is a group of folks who take the care and responsibility of their Yorkies very seriously - note the forums of diet, health, grooming. |

if anyone truly wants to try to get their dog to like the water, take a look in the video section at Alaska Mike's thread on Eddies water therapy. Those people are professionals and sure have a nice way of getting the dog to like the water rather that fear it. I don't know the OP but did have a hard time understanding his original post, I got the fact that he or she likes to kidd but since many people think the sink or swim method is both OK and funny, well lets just say I was not sure what to think. |
