Diatomaceous Earth (What do u think?) What do you think about using Diatomaceous Earth instead of flea and tick preventative? |
for those of you that don't know what this is, it is like the white lime they use to line football fields. I sell it in my business as an efficiency enhancer for industrial filters. Never heard of it used for tick prevention but having used tick powder years ago I would have to say there are some similarities in texture, but not sure if I would try it, and of course like with most of these questions, I would ask your vet Diatomaceous earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
I meant to put Food Grade. |
I have used the food grade DE for a flea outbreak we had a couple years ago. It worked wonders. I did not like how it made my pups' fur feel chalky, so it is not something I would do instead of flea preventative, but we still have some and I would use it again should we have a flea infestation. Definitely do not use the stuff they use in pool filters or to line fields on your dogs. ONLY food grade DE!! |
I use DE as a bug killer around the house, as it's safe for use with ZoE. I've not used it for fleas or ticks, but I would if necessary. It is messy though...kinda like sprinkling flour everywhere... |
I use a supplement that contains Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth & Ganedan Labs BC30 Probiotics. I haven't noticed a chalky fur feel. Yet. My pups seem to do well on it. |

You can actually add DE to your pet's food too. I guess it helps with worms, but I've never used it like that. |
