I need a bigger pad!!! No matter how hard they try to stay on the pee pad, my guys/girls miss the whole pad by about an inch or two. I have tried the biggest pads I can buy, but it seems like they have to run all over it before they go. :animal37 I have in the past, used old towels, which worked fine size wise. Then I started reading on here that most of you used commercial pee-pads. So I thought I'd try them. Well, how do you get yours to stay ON THE PAD??? When they do hit the pad, it's great and a lot easier than towels. But when they don't....... Any suggestions?? Suz |
i do have a suggestion. i swear by the pad holder, they have to step into it to go on the pad, try it.. i thought lexi would never do it, but the first time she tried it bam, she steps into it all the time.... |
Pad holder?? Where did you get a pad holder - I have been trying to figure out a way to make one. |
Petsmart has pad holders. Alternately, you might try spreading newspaper under the pad, extending out to the sides a few inches to catch the "near misses". |

I also have a pad holder. She makes it EVERY time because she has to step into it!!! |
I'm curious, and by no means am I trying to be rude or insulting so please don't take it that way... why are you using pads? Why not just train the dogs to go outside? If you can train a dog to go to the bathroom on the pad, you should be able to train them to go out. Matthias has not used a puppy pad at all since he's been here. It's been just over a week and he's completely housebroken. It wasn't even hard to do. I'm just curious why it seems I'm the only one that has done that. At least I haven't heard anyone else say their dog is housebroken. |
MN is really, really cold. The schools out here close because they are scared that kids eyes will freeze. It is not uncommon for us to have months of -40 degree weather. The dogs do become litter or pad trained. It may take some time but usually everyone has success eventually. A week to housetrain is very good. You have gotten lucky b/c it usually takes more than a month to train. |
Anyone wanting a pad holder? I have a couple of these pad holders...and if you'll just send me like $5 to cover the postage (inside US), I'll send it to you! I'll go get some pics... Quote:

The pad is easier especially in the winter. It is freezing and Desi won't stay outside to do her business, especially when the yard is full of snow and she sinks in it. Also, where I live there are no fences in the front of the homes and Desi becomes too easily distracted, I don't want her running into to the street because she sees a chipmunk or something.. |

Both my husband and I have to work all day as well. It's nice not having to worry about accidents if we can't make it home on our lunch break or need to stay late at work. Once it warms up this spring, I'll train her to do both (outside & pads). Hopefully she'll just use the pads when we are not home and have us let her outside when we are not. I thought it was a little odd at first too, but I've found it's not as uncommon as one would think... My husband's aunt, step-grandparents and mother have their small dogs (Pugs, Yorkie & a Westie) trained to use potty pads as well as go outside. My aunt also has her Cockers trained to do both. |
