Question about dog shows Our dogs that aren't showing allowed at the dog show? If so what type of documentation do you need? My mom and I might be going to the Westminster (sp) show in Feb. We both think it would be fun to go to, but I would love to take Logan along if possible. |
My educated guess would be generally that people can't take their own dogs to dog shows. I am sure less formal shows might allow some of this. The Westminster show (has thousands of dogs being shown) -- other dogs could certainly be desruptive - plus potentially carry illnesses, etc. Can't imagine visiting dogs there as a general rule. Carol Jean I love going to dog shows to see the beautiful dogs being shown. Never entered my mind to even want to take my own dog. Why do you want to take yours? (Don't get me wrong - I do take my dog with me every chance I get - but there are many places he just can't go....darn!) |
Ive carried my dog around in smaller shows but never big ones. I dont like the idea of having so many dogs that I dont know around mine, because of the fear of her picking up something. I would call & ask. Dont want to be turned down and then have to keep the pup in the car. |
I don't know why I wanted to take him. I guess I thought it would be fun for him to be around those other dogs, but I've been thinking that my mom and I might like to do some other things while on our trip. Such as take in a broadway show or something and that would probably make him somewhat of an inconveinence and since my hubby is staying home it wouldn't be like i'm leaving him alone. |
shows Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at so many shows. In fact the best place to pick up an illness is at a show. No one wants pets near their show dogs and you do not want show dogs near your pet... Personally, I am much more at ease with my Yorkies near family pets..never got sick from any...BUT they sure got sick from other show dogs..ever heard of Dog show Crud?? If he had to potty, it is a big "sand box"..and that is so dangerous for viruses. Westminster is a benched show and it is literally shoulder to shoulder in the dog and ventor area..but inside the arena it is very nice...lots of seating. It is a wonderful time..cold, but fun..you should go to the Yorkie Specialties before the Garden..they are GREAT>>>>and much more fun, lots of more reasonable Yorkie shopping. |
A few of your small shows, especially matches will allow other dogs, but they prefer not and they must be at least 6 months old with certificate of Rabies (I read somewhere). But most shows only allow the dogs that are entered to be near the rings. I would suggest not to only because the others are right, your dog could pick up something. Not everyone, which is sad, do not take care of their dogs like they should. T. |
Some of the dogs at the more important dog shows are worth their weight in gold. They are pampered, groomed, and kept in perfect health. I can't imagine their ever wanting people bringing their pets to the dog shows....no way!!! We take good care of our Yorkies -- but can you imagine what might show up!!! Carol Jean |
