teacup yorkies i have a question and I'm sure you all probolay heard it before but is there really a tea cup/minnie yorkie?? |
Hi there. There is no such thing as a "teacup" of any dog. It's a "cutesy" name that people came up with to try to make a lot of money by breeding undersized dogs. A Yorkie, by nature, is already naturally small (standard is under 7 lbs). There are unscrupulous breeders out there (refered to as "greeders") who will use this term trying to make a lot of money selling a designer dog. Please note, a Yorkie should not ever be bred if it is under 5 lbs...it risks the health of the mother and the pups will almost assuradely have health issues. So, to answer your question - No, teacup is not an official class of any dog. You will hear "toy" and that is correct. They are in the Toy Group. |

Before I knew better I purchased a "teacup" yorkie and because I did not resaerch before buying I even paid MORE for the runt of the litter..... Guinness is now my 14LB yorkie :p |
I get that teacup name all the time with my yorkies! I think people use it to describe a yorkie that is smaller than average. It is annoying but I just let them know that they are just smaller than some yorkies.....even though, Max is a sturdy 7 1/2 pounds, he looks short & stocky. Teacup is just another name that people use to describe small.....beware if a Breeder describes them as "Teacup" because they always charge more!!! |

thanks guys i wasn't sure i herd there were then i heard there wernt and there just trying to make money i was wondering also because when i took my grizzly to get groomed one of the heelers called him a teacup i know hes not but i was thinking oh maybe they are teacups |
Naw, No teacups, just small boned yorkies. Like someone said, they should be between 5 lbs and 7 lbs. for the breed standard. Some are bigger than the standard size, some are smaller. I tell people there isn't a teacup yorkie, yorkies are a small breed dog, and mine decided she wasn't going to get bigger. |
Theres no such thing as a "teacup" or a "teapot" Yorkie...Teacup is a marketing ploy. The only xxsmall Yorkies are the runts of the litter and pups that just happen to be xxsmall. Whenever a breeder is purposely breeding for teacup it means they are greedy, unethical people and you shouldn't buy one from them... |

I get vey defensive when people ask me if Roxy is a teacup yorkie. I try to calm explain "No she isn't a teacup. There is not such thing as a teacup yorkie. She is just small". I love it when people say they bred or have friends who bred teacups yorkies so they do exist! GRRRRR!! |
I did the same:/ That is sooo true, me being such a doorknob didn't realize the breeder of my tiny girl was a greeder! She also advertised tea-cup yorkues and stupid me paid 500.00 more than my other girls! Just aware if these people who strive to breed small to make more money:( I'm so thankful for a Vicki-lyn-Durrer baby and Kirkstans yorkies who breed for bettering the breed and love of the breed! :) |
oh dear, what a storm in a teacup about a teacup.........only teasing. They are advertised at Extremely ridicuously high prices here in South Africa can be upto R7000 that would be roughly $700 I think with the exchange rate if not more. My teapot yorkies weigh in at 7lbs and RUffy is 6lbs. Abby has long legs and Ruffy is stocky with lots and lots of hair. I have a dauschund who weighs in at about 14lbs and is as grumpy as they get. (she was abused as a pup and is a rescue - so she gets away with a lot :D:D:D) |
Teacup Yorkie talk This nut paid 2300.00 Canadian!!!!!!!! I know I know , my phyciatrist was on holidays! |
I paid R3500 for each of my babies, and they are worth every cent....:D:);) That would be ZAR which 2 years ago was worth a lot more than it is now |
