Surgery Update Hi Everyone just a little update on Taka. His surgery is scheduled for this friday the 14th. I'm freaking out so much, the vet told me he will be in the hospital for 3 days after and he cant come home, is this the norm for this type of surgery? (for those of you that don't know, Taka has LCP) Also, a 3 week recovery period, which I'm pretty sure thats normal. Just wondering if anyone has any input on this. thanks :D Also, He really needs to be groomed but there are no appt avail for him before friday so I was thinking of buying some clippers and trimming just his face myself since it will be another month before he will be able to go and I'm sure it will be annoying for him, does anyone know how? I've never done this before. I NEED HELP! haha. |

I know that they kept Toki overnight and I picked her up the following afternoon. We had to restrict her activity for 10 days until her sutures came out and then the goal was to walk, walk, walk and get her using that leg along with lots of range of motion exercises (we had more detailed take-home instructions but I don't remember exactly). I'll be thinking about Taka and looking for updates. |

When I worked for an Ortho vet, 3 days was the norm. |

Oh, I'm so sorry that he is having to go through this surgery. Have you checked at Petco or another groomer to see if they can squeeze him in? |

I am sure your little Taka will do just fine in surgery, though I know it is scary. I'm sorry I don't have any history with that type of surgery but wanted you to know you have my support. Best wishes to you and Taka. |

Hi - I know it's scary, but they seem to to recover pretty quickly. It's a little tough at first, but much better within a couple of weeks. My P-nut had two of these surgeries and came home with a fentanyl patch same day. The patch did great at controlling pain - he wore that for three days, then went to tramadol for about a week. After that, he only needed an anti-inflamatory once in a while. His limp was completely gone after after about 4-6 weeks weeks unless he overdid it.and now, 6 months after his second surgery, you'd never know. He runs like the wind and has amazing endurance. Hang in there, your pup will be so much happier soon! We have a new yorkie, a rescue, who we took on not only because he's a sweetie, but because he has LCP and we thought we'd help another little guy through the surgery. So we'll be going through it again soon, too. |
