How Far? Mikki is 4 lb and a little girl. She loves to walk with me. How far do you walk your little ones? |
18 week old Bella walks two blocks and back for a total of 4 blocks--I'm proud of her, because she is overcoming her fear of walking outdoors, and she is taking directions better! |

Most of our walks are 1 - 2 miles. We go in the morning and evening. They would probably go all day if I allowed them to. My boys are bigger and don't have off-leash yard time, so they love their walks. |
Unless there are reasons why she shouldn't walk long distances, I doubt there's much of a limit. I was walking with my Rainbow Bridge baby, Ashley, for greater than two miles at a time, even when she was close to seventeen. Katie can walk for miles at a time and then runs endlessly at fast speeds to fetch her ball when we come back from walking. I was worried that it could be too much for her knees, especially with all of her jumping to catch her ball midair, but her vet told me that they are doing great. As Mikki becomes more conditioned, she will be able to walk farther. Ashley had age related arthritis, but she loved her walks. |

I'm happy to hear Katie's knees continue to be strong. Max also jumps high to catch toys and to greet me when I return home. He worries me doing this on the hard kitchen floor. So far, his knees are holding up too. |

My friends 4lb and 6lb yorkies can easily walk 4-6 miles no problemo. It's good for them! Obviously I wouldn't walk a dog who is not used to being walked long distances that far, but slowly condition them to it. But I think it's better to allow them to learn how to use their bodies, etc, then totally prevent it. I think more injury can occur with some kind of a freak accident if a dog has never been allowed to do certain things etc. |
Pixie is 7 lbs and walks 2-3 miles a day as long as it is not too hot! Daisy only walks 1/2 mile and she has had it and in the stroller she goes:) |

I think as long as she's enjoying herself there's really no limit! Just be sure to keep water with you so she (and you!) can hydrate, and have fun! |
We walk a mile. She has a knee deformity where they turn Outward? I think that was how the vet described it. She doesn't appear to have any pain or be bothered by our walks. Just wanted to make sure. |
Cali has actually done a 5k race with me - she had more energy than I did :D - the weather was perfect and she had a ball! We did work up to it gradually, however ! |
We go for walks we walk a total of 6 blocks. The three girls are fine with it but that last time Quincy almost didn't make it. I thought that I was going to carry his 14;b butt the last block and a half. |

Lucy walks around my block - about 4 blocks total. Usually, I have to carry her a few steps here and there when she decides that she doesn't want to go any further. She finishes the trip though. We do that about 3x per day. Her "treat" is sniffing every mailbox and pole on the way home after she does her business. |
Thanks everyone! |
My little guy is 5 years old and has done as much as 9km on one walk only stopping twice for water. He loves to walk and we usually do a minimum of 4 km every day. |
Teddy 9 months walks about 1-2 miles with slow jog |
