OMG he found his voice
 
Bentley is 6 months old. He's just really found his voice.:eek: This morning he woke up about 5 and just would not stop barking. Something got his attention out in the parking lot. He keeps going out there and barking. I opened one of the blinds so he could get on the arm of the love seat and look and and see there's nothing out there. I've even put on the tv so maybe it would drown out the birds in case he's barking at them chirping. He's just finally settled down and is quietly laying next to me.:embarasse Think it's more from a full belly from breakfast.

I sure hope he does not bark all day when while I'm at work. At lease I'm on an end unit so I only have one neighbor beside me. And the front of the apartment has the outside stairs that is between that apartment and mine.

It's great when they find their voice lol ... I think it surprises them and that's why they bark a lot at first, it did with Bette. It should settle down with a few firm ' no barkings'. They grow up too quick don't they? Our newest pup still has the cute feisty growl thing going on but I don't doubt she will soon catch up to her x

Thanks. And he's totally rotten. Totally my fault too. ;) I tell him a lot he's lucky he's so darn cute. :D

Much too handsome. Must be INNOCENT! ;):)

Start correcting him now. Max found his voice at about the same age and fell in love his new power. He doesn't bark all day or randomly, but it took correction. We still have to tell him when to stop even during "legitimate" barking.

Yea, I'm trying to find his off button. I try "STOP." I will pick him up and love on him, many times he will continue to bark or do his little exhale and bark under head breath sort of thing he does. I even went as far as the 3 finger tap just to get his attention. Don't worry it's not a real hit or anything. I hold 3 of my fingers together and do a quick tap with just my fingertips on his front shoulder. Just to grab his attention.

This boy get tunnel vision when he thinks there is something worth barking at. :eek:

They always have to have the last word. :p When Max wouldn't follow the "quiet" command, I would say, "Okay, I'm leaving" and start walking out of the room to an area he can't access. Then he would listen.

We also have the Pet Corrector, which is nothing more than a can of compressed air. It makes a hissing sound when sprayed (it should never be sprayed directly at anyone). I call it "the horn" because we tried a party horn too. When Max barks at the doorbell and won't stop, I say, "Do you want the horn?" and I pick up the can. I don't even have to spray.

Some people have luck with coins in a can. When all else fails, you can also try a spray bottle with water.

Well after 5 am wake up call Saturday and 6 am wake up call Sunday. I decided Bentley and I would sleep with the bedroom door closed. I think the biggest part of his early morning barking is commotion in the parking lot. This morning my alarm clock went off and he was still sleeping.

I might have to look into the Pet Corrector. Coin can worked for a bit but now he's used to it. grrrr
