 This would be a wonderful thing! But I would guess, if a neighbor comes to you and TELLS you his dogs are animal aggressive, and he already KNOWS they can jump the fence and get to your little dogs, and yet has not already done something to rectify the problem on his own, I doubt he is concerned enough about this to pay for something he apparently considers YOUR problem. When it becomes HIS problem, then perhaps he will give it some thought. |
Praying you can stay safe and keep your pups safe. |
And please don't assume that you, yourself are safe bc the dog is only 'dog aggressive'. Having a small dog in your arms can also make you a target. Living here with a similar situation.... |
I am sorry you are in this situation that you can't even enjoy your own backyard safely. Hoping you can resolve things with your neighbor. They have a responsibility to keep their dog in their yard, especially one that they know is dog aggressive. |
I would file a complaint with animal control and if you can take a picture if they get back into your yard// people need to take responsibility for there pets |

You'll want to check your local building code too as many cities and towns have limits on the height of fences. Mine is 48 inches, haha. You may need a special permit to go higher. |

How scary! I had sold a puppy to a lady, and one day she called me so hysterical I couldn't understand her. Once she could talk, I found out she had been sitting in her yard with her puppy running and playing in her fenced in yard, when a Coyote jumped the fence, grabbed her puppy and jumped the fence out and run off. By time she got out the gate, ran after them it was gone.. and so was her puppy! I'm so sorry that you have to put up with irresponsible neighbors, and the fear for you babies! :( |
Yeah Coyote's are hunters.Small Dog cats always disappear in my area. Moki is under constant supervision. But they will take them outta your hand. So if you are in a Coyote area better have something. I've seen them 50ft from me. I live in Town but theres a Forest and a river nearby |
dog I would put up barbed wire or electric fence or spikes on fence and try not to disturb the people. You do not need to live in fear. Sorry you have to build a fortress for some selfish people. They should build it. Keep the peace if possible but guard your dogs. |

I understand the need for Animal Control under these circumstances, but, please realize this is an issue of Trespassing as well. It is the Dog's Owner's responsibility to control the animals activities, and the intrusion onto your property, the threat that represents to you and your property (dogs) is a Criminal Act. Photographic evidence of this (as has been recommended) will be very helpful in getting this issue resolved. |
Not sure whether to feel better or worse :(. DH talked to the neighbor today about his dog, afterwards we looked to see if it was out before taking ours out and we see the poor thing with a chain hooked to a sack on the end of it and attached to its collar. Not sure what is in it but I guess it is to prevent it from jumping over the fence. I am just not sure what to do or say anymore. I don't want the animal mistreated but I don't want mine in danger either. We are going to go check with the city on Monday about the fence ordinances and even we have to pay for it see what we can do. |
We are putting in 8 outside security cameras this weekend. We have three stands of barbed wire at the top of our chain link fence for dogs, but a few weeks ago some one used wire cutters on our fence to try to steal my babies. Stray dogs, neighbors dogs, coyotes, hawks and thief s! Man, it is shouldn't be this difficult trying to keep our babies safe in our own back yards!!! OP I truly feel for you........you, your husband and furbabies are in my prayers. |
I'm so sorry that those neighbors would treat their poor dog this way. Life at the end of a chain is not much of a life for any animal and not permitted by many cities/municipalities or even the morals of many people. It simply is abusive to chain a poor animal like. I'll bet AC does make them DC that chain! |
Unfortunately chaining is permitted here :(. |
Well went to check on fence looks like a chain link extension is our only option so that is what we will have to do. AC says I need pictures if it happens again as it is their word against mine. |
xdog I always document with pictures. Take a pic of your fence now then the addition. I would never trust my dog out there alone. |
I was always afraid to walk my dogs. I have heard too many times of big dogs attacking a small breed dog. We now live in the country and have very few neighbors. It only takes one though. We have some new neighbors about 1/4 of a mile up the street. They have two labs that found their way to our yard. We have a double fence and our yorkies we in the house so it was ok. We talked to the neighbors and they were very understanding. We have not seen the dogs again. But it is very scary when you have little ones...gotta keep them safe. Hopefully your neighbor will rethink letting his dog out of the yard...or animal control will help. It's hard to know how the neighbor will react..good luck. |
