Julie: Deterring Her from Sofa Scrathing We allow Sabu to be on the couch. However, it is another story with Julie. When she gets on the couch, she tends to scratch on the couch cover to make herself comfortable. It is to the point now, she has scratched a small hole on one couch cover. If she continues this behavior, she will begin to scratch the material on either couch, which I really don't want to see happen. So, I am asking you all how you have deterred your babies from scratching on the couch or couch cover to make themselves comfortable. I don't mind Julie hopping on the couch to nap or to get the window sill to look out at life. I just want her to stop scratching on the couch. Starlette |
My Jilly was a scratcher/digger. She dug a hole in my very expensive duvet in only a couple of weeks and taught me a lesson. Digging/scratching was her passion and she was a chewer/destroyer of her toys. I trashed the duvet, changed to an inexpensive one, put tinfoil in places around on the bed and for some reason, this stopped her destructive scratching/digging. Why wouldn't she destroy that cheap old thing and not the expensive, ultra soft one????? Anyway, from that time on she stopped her hard scratching for some reason, maybe because the other duvets and bedspreads after that weren't as enticing or something. I still would occas. place some squares of tinfoil on the bed from time to time just here and there for years to"remind" her but still don't really know why she stopped. I hope you can use tinfoil or a series of cardboard boxes, poster board or something placed atop the couch when you aren't home to prevent further damage. Of course when home, you can verbally stop her when you see her start in. I'm sure sorry she did that - I know how dismaying it is to have expensive things totally destroyed by our sweet little "dears"! :D |
Callie goes to do this and I tell her no. I would try a stern no and if she keeps doing it maybe say no again and put her on the floor. One of the dogs I grew up with did it so bad he would end up tearing up dog beds and everything and if you even touched what he was doing he had to start his process over. |
Jilly wouldn't scratch or dig hardly when I was around but one day I caught her at it and stopped her. But I was working at the time so she was alone during the day. The then next thing I knew, I found that hole in my new duvet!!! The little sneakpot did it while I was at work I guess. But that one time I caught her, from the way she was digging at it, I imagine she did that a lot when I wasn't around. |
Princess Sophie is a scratcher and digger. I have been keeping a quilt on our sofa because it's brand new and what she really wants is my attention when she is doing this. Little sneaker, have to watch her every minute. I look forward to when she stops doing this but I too don't know how to keep her from scratching and chewing on the cording around the cushions on the couch. She's just too smart for me. LOL |
