Yes, the vet should be able to give you a good idea on the approximate age (ie, puppy, young adult or adult dog.) Is he neutered? If not, talk to the vet about getting that done too.

I do think the vets estimate by the condition of their teeth, but I wouldn't think they would give a much more specific answer. It is possible though. When my in law's got their Yorkiepoo (they were looking at adopt a low shedding dog, and someone was giving this one away because they couldn't afford to take care of her any longer), the vets told them that she was an age that was in between a couple of different months. I am guessing it's easier to guess when they're still a pup.

Is Petco the only pet store around? Check out the sellers on this forum -- I think that there are sellers of Gooby, ChokeFree, and Buddy Belt all here. It's worth the investment to have a nice harness! ^^ I also recommend the Madan brushes / combs. So many good retailers on YT!

No, there's also PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus...along with of course the chain grocery stores which have pet sections. I'm trying to find a harness that stays out of the armpit area to stay away from "rug burn." I've looked at the Buddy Belt, and I love the way they look, they're just literally a wee out of my price range for this week. My birthday is only a few months away, maybe I'll get a teal/turquoise one for "Demo" for my birthday. Lol. Funny how that works, "it's my birthday so lets get something for my dog!" I can't imagine a "teapot yorkie" in an outfit (I've been searching for pictures on here, but only seem to find the teapot applications.) Oh well I guess. I'm not too big on larger dogs wearing clothes. The small ones pull it off so much better!

But! Once I get him, get everything situated and take a million pictures of him, I will upload plenty of pictures!!

Do not be afraid to dress the teapot Yorkie! Nilla is a teapot, and I have no issues with putting anything on her -- lol! I haven't had the need to buy a new dress in a while, but she does have two (both from YTers). Otherwise, I tend to make her wear Gooby hoodies. I haven't gotten much of anything clothing wise except Gooby (since I was trying to be loyal to our local pet boutique and that's what they sold), but after some sparring words, I am now doing my own thing. Just trying to be frugal for the time being ... Nilla just had her shots, got her a new kind of food to try, got her some new treats (Isle of Dogs peanut butter and sweet potato which she LOVES and this Yeti dog chew that she does seem to like if I hold it for her to gnaw on), ordered her a new Rubit and tag that has her microchip number on it (I hadn't thought of putting it on there the first time I got her a tag, but I like the idea of someone knowing that she is microchipped though I hope nothing of the sort ever happens) ... I'm fairly certain I spend more on her than I do myself. Ha ha! Welcome to pet parenthood!

I was just looking at Gooby. Decided I should probably wait to get the harness until I can actually measure him and not try and eyeball it from a picture. Thinking maybe getting a thin collar just so he is used to wearing something all the time; I'd probably end up putting his jinglies on the collar then throw on the harness for an outing. It seems every time I'm on my phone it's either here, etsy, or amazon looking for dog things. "Oh that's a cute toy, I like that color bowl, that's a funky collar."
My exs "schnauzer mix" was my heart. Bothered me until I would pet him when I got home. One time I actually flipped my bed of balance while he was sleeping and after I balanced it back out he gave me the "really, are you dumb?" look. Really bummed me out when he took Simon with him (he was never home to take care I him, so Simon was more my dog than his.) You never realize how much food you drop on the floor until you have to constantly bend down to pick it up. Haha.

So adorable. I can see how just one look at the ragamuffin face and you were instantly in love. I'm no expert at all but I agree he looks all yorkie to me. Soon to be known as all yours. ;)

Can't wait to hear all about him when you get him. :D

You can also try TJ Maxx & Marshalls for stuff. Surprisingly, those stores have a lot of "boutique" stuff at regular prices. They have nice beds and stuff you wouldn't think about until you see it. You may be able to pick up a good harness there as well. They generally have a big pet section.

I've purchased many things on ebay/etsy too. If you need something that you can't find, Amazon also has some good deals at times.

I've been searching for another Buddy Belt as well. The cheapest price I could find is $47. Many times we purchase things that don't work or are too big/small for our pups or even our pups outgrow the need for something. You can always ask if someone here is re-selling something you need.

It's a big commitment. However, once you have the basics in place, then, other than food & some toys, you don't need too much else. Try to keep something for him to chew on too. Rawhide is not good for yorkies because they eat it and can't digest it. My puppy likes the little hoofs - though they can make her breath stink.:eek:

Well.....something kept telling me not to buy anything for him. Turns out she "forgot" I wanted him and sold him yesterday :(

I'm sorry to hear that! Well, stuff happens for a reason -- and this pairing probably wasn't "meant to be." Keep your hopes up though. If you're still interested in finding a baby of your own, he/she will come along.
