Question about my yorkie's behavior Hi! I have a three year old yorkie. I think that she might have bruised her right hind leg over the weekend. Every time I take her out for a walk she doesnt walk as far as she usually does and when I touch her hind leg she lets out a loud yelp. She has just been sitting curled up for a couple of days now. I took her to the vet intially because she was also having diareah, so i thought it was bc of the stomache problem. The vet did a physical on her and didnt report anyting to me about the yelping problem when she touched my yorkie's hind leg. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone and what I can do to help relieve some of the pain. I googled and read somehwere that asprin might help relieve the pain. Any suggestion? |
I would take her back to the vet to have the leg checked before medicating her, and also get vet approval on any medication before giving it. Just to be on the safe side...:D |
Hi. I'm so sorry that your baby is obviously hurting. If the vet didn't address the problem just because it didn't happen in the office, I would go back and demand treatment. Actually, I would go to another vet, explain EVERYTHING that you just typed out here to us (the diarrhea and the walking and yelping). She could have some nerve issue, a pulled tendon, a broken/cracked bone, an Luxating Patella issue..just too many things that could be going on here. I'd get a second opinion and demand some relief for my baby. Hugs! Hang in there. I know it is so hard to see them hurting. |
I'm surprised your vet didn't suggest an x-ray. If your baby's yelp is that frequent to you, I would think an x-ray would be in order if for nothing else but to rule out a broken bone. Good luck, hope she feels better really soon!! |
Poor baby.. I agree I would take her back in. I would also tell him what you think- he should know she “could” have bruised her hind leg. Maybe until you find out just let her rest.. bed rest would be the best thing right now if she did hurt he leg.. Poor baby, hope she gets better soon. |
You can give a 1/2 of a baby asprin but I would call and get your vets approval first |
Before you give any over the counter medicine, please talk to your Vet. |

It cant hurt to get a second opinion. I had a similar thing happen with my Chachi and his leg was just bruised but only an exray will let you know for sure |
I agree on getting second opinion. It's better to be on the save side :) Good luck with your baby |
If your dog is yelping out when touched in a particular area, limping, curled up and not active, she's likely hurt and needs treatment. Get her to a second vet and don't take her walking until you get a diagnosis or she's acting okay again. Vets, like doctors, occasionally miss things. Could just be a strain to a partially ruptured tendon. |

I agree with the other take her back to the vet or go see a different vet. Good luck to both you and your little one |
I think she needs to be rechecked by a vet. My vet told me vets are now not wanting to give aspirin because of internal bleeding and other issues. |
