So today I decide to walk into a pet store.. (looking for another harness for my chew everything yorkie) and I overheard an employee talking to a lady buying a yorkie ( for 2,500 :eek:) This poor baby was born in jan,and only weighed 1.5-2lbs. The lady called her a "teacup" yorkie and told the buyer that if she planned on breeding her that she will produce smaller yorkies and she will make her money back!! :mad: I butted in and said theres no such thing as a "teacup" yorkie and that poor baby will die if she even tried to breed her and her best option was to get her fixed asap! I then explained I have 4 yorkies (whom I planned on breeding but with all the risks that come with it im not willing to put my babies through that, I cant fathom losing one of them) and they shouldnt even be bred at that size and tried to explain the risks and the moron of a employee told me I dont know anything im talking about because she breeds her yorkies all the time and that she has never had an issue!! and that I should leave before she calls security!! ... Im so pissed!!! how can someone be that dumb and selfish to put their baby at such a risk!! I will admit, we used to buy our dogs from pet stores but after reading so much about puppy mills etc we now go through responsible breeders as well as tell everyone about how puppy mills are.. I feel so bad for that little baby.. its like they sentenced her to death just to make a buck.. :(

I am firmly convinced there is no cure for stupidity. All we can do is continue to try and educate, and if ONE person gets the message, you have accomplished much. ;)

The sad part is.. I dont think she even got the message. she had a deer in the headlights look the whole time. :(

Thank you! I always correct people on the TEACUP thing- they look at me like I'm an idiot most of the time, especially when I say Yorkies should be 5 to 7 lbs. I add "Yorkies are small breed of dog, but there's no Teacup yorkies."

The thing is people like that do not care about them. They are a money maker for her.

Buying from pet stores that sell puppies also helps supports them buying from puppymills.
