Early signs of pregnancy? Our yorkies successfully got stuck a couple of times so we are hoping for babies this summer. Are there any sure-fire signs of early pregnancy? This is our first breeding of yorkies. First off, let me tell you that I am not a puppy mill, I am not breeding irresponsibly or anything of the like. and yes, I realize that the vet is the best place to get confirmation of a pregnancy. I'm excited about this and am hoping there may be some things that I can look for before she sees the vet in two weeks. Thanks for any help!!:yorkiej: |
There are no real early signs that will tell you if she is or is not pregnant because they can have the same symptoms with a false pregnancy. Some things that might be an indication though are loss of appetite, vomiting, nipples getting larger, vulva staying larger, and being grumpier. The belly usually does not start getting larger until around the 5th week. Please keep us posted on how she does. I pray she does well. |
Thank you! I will keep you posted!:) |
I also forgot to mention that YT has a great breeders section. In the future if you have any questions on breeding, whelping and care of the new litter it would be best to post there. You will get a lot more response. Have you been reading up on whelping puppies and caring for the pups? There is so much to learn. |

Is your female 5 pounds or over? If she is not she could die from having puppies or need a c-section that costs a couple thousand dollars. Did you do health testing and make sure you know your dogs lines because even if a dog is healthy they could have illnesses in there lines and then you could have sick puppies with genetic illnesses that will cost you a lot of money and heart break or they might not show up until 2 years or so and then may cost the puppy a lot of pain and then whoever has the puppy a lot of heart break and money. Do you plan to get an xray before the pups are born to know how many you have? Have you whelped before if not you need to find an reputable breeder to help you out who knows ever single sign of problems. Are your dogs AKC registered and have you made sure you are breeding to better the breed? Are you going to keep the puppies until 12 weeks and get there dew claws removed and tails docked at 3 days old? Do you have money set aside for this because breeding is very expensive when you do it right. |
