Yorkie vomiting yellow bile I have a 2-YR old Yorkie MALE who, over the past 2 days, has been vomiting. I had not seen any food in the vomit, it appears to be a yellow bile, but when I gave him a few treats yesterday morning, I came home at lunch to find he had thrown all of it up and he doesn't appear to be eating his food. He does not seem lethargic or have a lack of energy. I have taken him to the vet, who feels that a X-ray wasn't necessary, as I've had past issues with Max swallowing foreign objects causing a need for an EMERGENCY surgery, and they gave him a shot for nausea and various medicine for me to give him at home. The vet felt as though he, clinically, seemed fine and feels its a gastrointestinal issue. So my question is how many of you have experienced gastrointestinal issues with your Yorkie and have you discovered any solutions besides bringing them to the vet every time?? :aimeeyork:animal-pa |
Turbo used to throw up yellow bile, sometimes white foam & even undigested & digested food sometimes. I had his BAT tested, thyroid function, even urinalysis for diabetes test. Everything came back fine. Vet prescribed him tagamet for stomach acid & pepcid. I found out finally that he was allergic/ intolerant to pumpkin! I was giving them fruitables snack b4 bedtime & as a mid-day snack bc I thought he was throwing up bc of an empty stomach...but the other 3 were fine. Once I stopped giving them the fruitables, he stopped throwing up. I hope you'll pin point as to why he's throwing up. You can try splitting his meals into 3, cut all treats & go from there. My vet also said dogs anticipate meal times & they can produce stomach acid, so feeding x's should be a routine schedule & in time. It can be reflux too, so that has to be ruled out. |
Mine do that a lot of times when they have been upset about something but if it goes on for no more than 24 hours we go to the vet for a shot |
Zoey did that few times on different occasions. 1. She eats grass sometimes and vomits yellow bile later. (sometimes vomits containing grass, sometimes not) 2. Some treat I give her doesn't agree with her tummy. 3. She's hungry. 4. WAY overly excited and/or spent too much energy running around. If she vomits, I don't give her any treats for a day or so and feed her blend food for couple days. Like boiled chicken breast and rice. I think yorkies are known to sensitive tummies. Of course, if I see any other signs of her not being well, I'd take her to the vet right away. If not, the blend food and no treats have been working. :) Oh~ I forgot to mention, if your pup vomits, make sure he's kept hydrated. I keep a bottle a pedialyte just in case. |
