Toki has a new brother! 4 Attachment(s) A little over a week ago, we brought home a 9 month old male yorkie...his name is Teddy and he is just the sweetest dog! Teddy came to us all scraggly and knotted and he had waaaaay overgrown nails that were starting to curl under toward the pad. You can also feel every notch in his spine as well as his hips and ribs so we are in the process of helping him to fill out (harder than I expected but I know it will take some time to do gradually...Toki looks kinda like a hippo when the two of them sit side-by-side lol he has a bigger frame but they weigh the same and she's fluffier :) ). He was neutered yesterday and had some baby teeth taken out so today is all R&R...we have been so busy the past week getting everything taken care of and getting everyone at home adjusted to our new addition...whew! Teddy is pretty close in size to Toki and has a similar energy level...they can really keep up with each other and are getting along so well...I know that they will be perfect companions over time :) This is my first male dog and I'm still learning a lot of new things. No major issues have come up so far with introducing a second dog. The first day, Teddy was trying to mount Toki literally everytime she stopped to scratch her neck or bent over to drink some water. I'm assuming it's because he wasn't neutered but probably more so because he developed the behavior and it was never corrected (we have had female dogs that did this but certainly not to this extent!). The humping hasn't been as much of a problem over the past few days since we have been diligent in disrupting and redirecting. Toki seems to have accepted him as well...the first couple of days she was constantly intercepting Teddy every time he tried to come up to us but now they spend more time near each other and playing together and she doesn't seem to mind us petting him, leashing him up, feeding him, etc. (these things were all somewhat upsetting to Toki the first couple of days). One issue/inconvenience that has come up is that when we take Teddy out to pee, sometimes it comes out so fast or forcefully that he gets urine all over the back of his front leg...I'm not sure if there is much that I can do besides wiping him off when we come inside. I've tried taking him out more frequently to see if a smaller volume of urine will help "slow the flow" but that has not really been successful. I would appreciate any advice if you all have dealt with this before...we still love him regardless! I feel like I'm rambling! Anyway, here are some pictures from the past week...the first 2 are before our trip to the groomer...you could just tell that he felt like a million bucks afterward! |

How Awesome, Congratulations :D Teddy is quite handsome.. I love the pic where Toki & Teddy are sitting next to each other looking out the window.. |
awwww that is wonderful thank you for saving him! |
Congratulations on your new family member. Teddy is just adorable. I love the picture where they are both sitting together looking out the window. |
Congratulations!! Your pictures of Toki and Teddy together are absolutely adorable. Thank you for giving this cutie pie a loving and caring home. It's obvious in the pictures that he is going to flourish in your care. Sounds and looks like you have accomplished a lot in one week. For peeing, I don't have any advice other than what you are already doing with the frequent potty breaks. Maybe part of it is his excitement about his new family and home and he will settle down in time. Maybe he is also getting accustomed to being groomed properly and will figure out he doesn't have to be as forceful. I am very happy that you and Toki have Teddy (of course, I am partial to the name too :)). |
Congrats! He is adorable, and I love the pic of them looking out the window together. Bless his heart, that poor little face in the "cone of shame" lol! (Sorry, movie quote :D) They look like they are well on the way to being great buddies! As for the teetee problem, no clue. Sounds like he has a nice strong bladder but he needs to work on his aim! Quote:

Awww, Teddy looks like he has found his forever home and has settled in nicely! :) |
Thanks guys! He probably is pretty excited being in a new home with a new dog and just needs more time...hopefully his piddling issue will resolve itself and if not, it's not a huge deal. When we first brought him home, he would not play with any toys or chew on anything so I thought he was just a quiet dog or didn't know how to play. But after 5 days, he finally brought a toy to me and I was so excited lol! I guess he was just getting settled in and figuring what we were all about. Teddy is such a snuggle bug and a sweetheart...Toki has competition now at our vet and groomer for sweetest pup lol I think he's a perfect match for us |
He sounds like a great little guy. He was respectful of his new surroundings and didn't try to take the other dog's place. That is wonderful. Sometimes bringing a new dog in can result in some territory issues but it seems you don't have to worry about that. He is so cute. Congratulations. |
Loved all the picts but I too am partial to the one of them both sitting next to each other looking out the window. They look like best buds!! You are an angel taking in Teddy, thanks for doing that. He looks like he is settling in just fine!! |
Congratulations!! He is adorable and I also love that picture of the two of then sitting sitting side by side. You can tell they are going to be best buds....or criminals in crime!!:D |
Congratulations! Teddy is adorable :) It's great to hear that they are adjusting to each other so quickly! |
I love the last pic, so cute & funny! Congrats & he is a sweetheart! Toki must be so happy she has a brudder to play w/& boss around. About the pee getting on their legs, my boys do that too. I just wash their paws, wee wee area & inner hind legs whenever we come back from their walk. It's part of the daily routine for us.:D We used to have a pee string, but it was getting too much urine on it, so I keep it neat & short. |
He is a handsome little guy!!!! I am very happy for you! |
