Help! Lana is becoming very possessive As some of you already know, Lana (we have renamed Anna) is my newly adopted 6 year old from a shelter. Her history is a little sketchy. She was used as a breeder and lived most of her life in a cage. She is adapting very well to our house. We are even getting the potty training down. However, when my husband comes near me, she has a fit. She lets him hold her and plays with him some if I am out of the room. But when my husband tries to come near me, she barks and growls. She even nipped him today. He is very good natured about it. What can we do to get her over this? I am afraid it's going to get worse if we don't address it. :( |
When she growls at him turn your back on her or remove her from the room. Or Have your husband become the primary caretaker for while. |
yes i agree have your husband do all the caretaking so she has no choice but to fully bond with him. also your right you do not want to let it go because she will only become more possessive of you. |
Thanks for the advice. I will do this tonight when he gets home. My husband may have a harder time with this than I will. He is a softy. |
We had this problem when I was living in a student share house with a Jack Russell. We had our housemate take care of the dog for a few weeks but also gave the dog a scent t-shirt to sleep with and the bond has been pretty tight since. |
Besides turning your back keep it turned until he can let her and when she lets him let her both of you praise her. Let her know she is important but hubby is the boss too |
