Cerenia for car sickness I finally got Cerenia from the Vet for Joels car sickness. I tried not to but nothing else works and I'm only planning to use it for long trips which is rare, like the drive to camping and the drive back, it's a 1 hour drive. I gave him the first dose and it worked, he acted sick and drooled a lot, but no puking. But I didn't like that after we got there he didn't seem himself and it was hard to get him to eat and it seemed to make him feel sicker in the end. So on the drive back I didn't even want to give him the medicine again and just planned on him puking the whole way home, which he always does but he didn't!:D It was days later so the medicine was worn off so I think because he finally didn't get sick the first time he saw he didn't have to get sick. Then today I pushed it farther and took him for another ride and he didn't get sick at all and he even had a few treats before we left. I can't believe he wasn't getting sick! I hope he is done with his car sickness but now I need to find a cure for his drooling and foaming, lol you wouldn't believe how much drool can come from his mouth, a lot! |
That is great! Very interesting that one ride without getting sick had such a positive impact. I hope he continues to improve so that you both can enjoy car rides. |
It sounds like anxiety maybe try some calming things like the thundershirt or a calming supplement. |
Hi there...sure hope you are right and Joel doesn't puke any more. I have the same thing with Wallee. We had to go in the car last weekend, (just a short trip but doesn't take much movement to get him going). I gave him a little gravol an hour before we left. He never threw up, however on the way there, he still shook a lot. We had a full day outside with lots of dogs and he didn't seem to shake on the way home. I am, however going to try the rescue remedy in case that is the reason he is also throwing up. I am thinking it is just cause he gets so worked up. Poor guy threw up all the way home the day we picked him up for an hour and a half drive. Since then, we have not taken him in the car where he really enjoys it. I have tried crating, belting to the car seatbelt, and now a snoozer with still the same results. Amazing how many of these dogs get worked up in the car. |
