Is this normal??? I am a fairly new 'momma' to an almost 7 yr. old Yorkie. She is a sweetheart in so many ways, however I am somewhat confused about some of her habits, such as constantly licking her paws. Is this allergies? Or something all Yorkies do? I do not recall any of my previous pets ever doing this. Also, she has begun to bark at everything. She goes to the front door sniffs around and then continues barking. So I open the door to let her out and right away she wants to come back in. Is this again a habit that Yorkies do because of their genetic make-up? The other situation is her being a 'picky' eater. My fault. I had boiled some chicken and added about a tablespoon to her dry food and now she will not eat much of her 'dog food' unless I add some chicken to it. My fault. Any answers for her and me? Thank you. |
Picky eaters is something I think we see a lot of with the Yorkie breed. Does she eat the kibble and the chicken? Maybe start decreasing the chicken amount a little each day until you can stop all together. For barking, some have suggested putting beans or pennies in a bottle and shaking it to stop the barking. I have not used it but some have been successful with it. The only time my girls have continually licked paws is when they had allergies. They also "chewed" at them. I would talk to your vet on this. Allergies could be possible. And can be caused by many things. Keep us updated! |
Welcome to YT! BabyGirl Rosie gave you some good advice. I used pennies in a bottle before with other dogs, it does help them stop barking for a second or 2. When she stops, make sure to reward her with a treat or praise right away. |
One of mine constantly licks his paws because of allergies. I sorted out most of his symptoms by changing his diet but he still kept on paw licking. I solved the problem, after lots of trial & error, by rubbing Thornit powder into his paws, brilliant stuff! The hair has all grown back & no more licking. |
