Liver shunts and Food Brandi was diagnosed with liver shunts in Novemember of last year and the vet put her on Prescription Hills L/D. SHE HATES IT!!!!! It's getting to the point where the only way I can get her to eat is by putting little pieces of boiled chicken. She has lost a few ounces and now I don't know what to do. She needs a brand of food that is specially formulated. I looked at the royal canin and I can't really afford that but if is the only choice that is what I'll have to do. Is there anything else besides the royal canin that she can eat which is low in protein? Trust me she isn't sick as she gets very excited at dinnertime. She will eat it only because she is hungry and even then it's only a small amount. She has a healthy appetite and her recent vet vist about two weeks ago was great but the vet says she has lost some weight because she hates her food. Also she does't have any teeth so I tend to only feed her the wet food as I am scared she may choke on kibble because she has a tendency to inhale her food. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks |
My vet has me grind up the kibble and mix it with pumpkin and cooked mushed up green beans. Makes it wet and chunky. Have two eating it that way. Someone else may say this is risky, I don't know. Works for my two Yorkies and their numbers have stayed steady. I also put a tsp. of goat's milk in with each meal. ~Joanne~ |
What brand of kibble are you feeding them? |
Royal Canin. They are all nasty. ~Joanne~ |
