Cute Puppies - Parents=Yuck! 1 Attachment(s) Wifey and I are in the market for another Yorkshire so our little girl Daisy can have a playmate. We've looked at a few litters, but ran into the same problem, and last night took the cake. We asked the owner to bring the male and female parents - when they arrived and hopped out of the car, I thought I was looking at a beagle or small mutt/Yorkie mix. The parents were HUGE, short wiry, thick fur, very long bodies, mammy dog was enormous with sparse hair (fur) and pappy dog was skittish, very thick wiry fur, was just a big as mammy, they also smelled bad and had fleas. They were a double arm full when I picked them up. Yet, the "papers" said Yorkshire Terrier? They did slightly resemble the classic Yorkie, but the size blew me away, my guess is they both were pushing 20-25 pounds, and the fur certainly wasn't (Yorkie Hair) it was fur. It's a good thing we looked at the parents before we turned over our cash! How people get these dogs categorized at Yorkies is beyond me? To the novice, or newbie Yorkie owner, they would've been burned badly had they bought one of these puppies (and I'm sure someone will). There should be closer regulation on our breed and "breeders" should be required to send in photos of the sire and dame with the puppies before "official papers" are distributed. Something needs to be done.... That's my rant. It's hard to find a real Yorkie now days - seems everyone is in it for money, just a business to them all they see is dollar signs and could care less about the breed/bloodlines. The search continues.... Attachment 386616 |

I read somewhere you can register puppies with the akc without proof of the puppies being full blooded. As long as mom and dad are registered, the litter can be as well. For example: if some random dog got to mom and bred her, the owner can claim his dog as dad and register all the pups as full blooded. Seems to me this may have happened a few generations with those people. |
If this breeder is affiliated with the AKC, there is contact information at the bottom of the following link for reporting unscrupulous practices: AKC Facts and Stats "While the AKC does not have penal or regulatory authority, AKC conducts thousands of its own inspections each year. Breeders who have major kennel deficiencies may lose AKC privileges (ability to register dogs or compete in events). In some cases, fines will be imposed, AKC privileges may be suspended indefinitely and appropriate law enforcement authorities are contacted. If you would like to ensure that the breeder you are dealing with is in good standing with the AKC, contact AKC Customer Service at 919-233-9767 or Info@akc.org." |
You were looking at these puppies out of their car? |
