Did I Buy From A BYB??? After everything I've read on here, I'm questioning whether Jasper came from a BYB. Will someone check out the website and give me your thoughts. Please? I feel like I need to know and let my vet to as well. I can tell you that there were kennels behind her home in a large chain linked fenced in area. There were no dogs outside that we saw or heard. The pups were in the home along with a 2 yr old female. We did not meet the parents. We did not hear any other animals in the house. The site is yorkiepupsrus.com. Thanks for any help. |
for me not a ton of red flags but the dams there is one under five pounds and the sirs are all under 5 pounds. technically a "good breeder" will not use any of 5 pounds from what ive read on threads here. im sure others will chime in. in not really sure if this is classified as a byb or not. if your baby is healthy that is what matters most. :) |
I'm not sure, someone else may be able to check that for you. I just have a question, what was the reason for not meeting the parents? |
Thank you and so far he has had no.problems. Guess I just got paranoid with so many out there. Its really scary when you think it about it. |
She didn't offer for us to meet the parents and I didn't know any better, at the time, to ask. :( |
it is very scary and im glad no health issues to date. did you have a bloodwork panel done??? i believe this is a good double check. sorry meant to add you shouldve met the parents that another red flag to me but i am no where near educated on this as the long time yt's. so well see what they add. |
The female in the nursery is Jasper's sister. She has dropped the price on her twice. Jasper's name was "Felix" in that litter. |

Not enough info. Don't like the name of it, lack of info bothers me....the fact that you are wondering bothers me too...means you have no communication. |
No I have not had a blood panel done. He gets his last shots tomorrow and I can have the blood drawn then. Thanks for bringing that up. :) |
Well, a few things, They are in Arkansas and I don't see any recommended breeders by the YTCA in Arkansas. They don't mention anything about a health guarantee so I'd need answers to that - did you get one? What did it say? How old was Jasper when you were allowed to pick him up? AKC registered doesn't always mean, best breeder. They link to AKC, which is good, but I am not liking that one of their ladies is not only under FIVE lbs..she is barely over THREE. I wouldn't have bought from them knowing what I know now. How's Jasper? Which two were his parents? |
I wouldn't call her a BYB, She does have one female that is under 5 pounds but that doesn't make her a BYB. |
Also, can someone tell me what "AKC DNA Certified" stands for? Does this mean that they were allowed to register with the AKC based on DNA proven purebred testing? (not via past AKC lineage papers)?? |
No health guarantee was given. I signed a form stating I would have him checked out by a vet within 72 hours. We picked Jasper up at 11 weeks old. But, we could have gotten him at 10. His parents are Mindee and Levi Garrett. Oh, Jasper was micro-chipped. |
She gave me an AKC registration form for me to fill out. If that tells you anything. |

Well, based on that info, I would say that they aren't a recommended breeder by the YTCA (which I would go along with more than the AKC). They obviously don't adhere to certain recommendations for the best interest of Yorkies based on the age they let the pups go, the small breeders (especially the female), and no health guarantee. If there are only 3 catagories: BYBers, Puppymills, and Reputatable Breeders - I would put them in the BYB catagory. Personally - I think there is a middle ground between BYBers and Rep Breeders. I would put them in that area in MY own mind and opinion. As said before - Jasper seems healthy and that is what is important! :) |

Okay...so I'll ask the vet to do a blood panel tmrw. If it comes back with no issues Jasper should be okay? It eases my mind a lot. I never knew all of what I know now. And what I know now doesn't even make a dent in it, I'm sure. |
At 15 weeks he weighed 2.5. That was 3 weeks ago. He will get weighed tmrw. I'm certain hes over 3 now. |

I think you will be ok!! At least you can see his M/D LOL I have really no idea where Peanut came from.. I was working at the Vet at the time and this lady would come in. She owned a Pet Store in town. She brought all her puppies to us for exams, vaccines. She only had dogs from local breeders. I told her I wanted a Yorkie girl and she brought me a couple females, none of which I was interested in. Then she brought me Peanut, I fell in love! She told me he was a male, LOL I didn't care- I knew he was meant to be mine! She told me he came from a breeder in the same city- I never sought out to meet the breeder- |

Thank you!! I wish I was able to see his parents, but its all good. The only problem we have with Peanut is LP, other than that he has been healthy. |
