Dog heats??!! Okay I don't have a female dog I have a male. So I don't know about female heat cycles and I would like to know. So say if a female dog went into heat today can a male dog come in and get her prego or does it have to be another week or what? Also how many times does a dog go into heat? :) |
They go into heat a couple times a year but its best to spay them anyway. Reduces many health risks. |
Females go into heat approximately every 6 months. It can vary with every female. Also their first heat is after being 6 months old. Between the 9th and 12th day after going into heat they are ready to mate. But again, every female is different. Some females can still get pregnant at 21 days after going into heat. Are you asking this because of the girl you might get? To avoid unplanned litters it's better to spay the female :) Otherwise you will have to be very careful and keep the dogs away from each other and that's not fun for them |
And just like MyGirlSasha said, it reduces many health risks |
I think there is a range in which she can get pregnant, although some breeders do say a certain day is more likely. The problem is unless you’re very experienced and know what to look for, you may not even know you dog is in heat. Some dogs have minimal bleeding and lick themselves clean. Something I learned here the other day, was that a male dog who is neutered will attempt to mount a female in heat even though he can't impregnate her, he can hurt her and he can also hurt himself very badly. Breeders actually help with breeding so that neither dog is hurt. Another important piece of information is that they can get sexually transmitted diseases from each other even if it’s a first time for both. If you want to keep you dogs pups instead of adults, it’s really best to spay and neuter them both. Please don’t think it’s easy to breed Yorkies, the breed has so many diseases and only experienced breeders who do genetic health testing and know their lines thoroughly should breed. |
I agree with what Nancy said. It's better and saver to just enjoy your dogs and let the breeding to the persons who have the knowledge, time and money to do it the right way ;) |
