never understood this i always see posts(none inperticular so dont think im picking on u) of people complaining about training and grooming those are my 2 favorite things about have puppy/dogs i love sitting on the floor with my boys and teaching them new things and running to the door when there doing the pee pee dance and then when they go they get all excited and jump all over you like I DID IT I DID IT LOL and i love bathing and brushing brownie and the finished product is a gorgeous coat and a yorkie bouncing up and down happy cause your telling them how pretty they look i dont see why people get a dog and dont see any of this they just see it as a hassle |
My favorite things to do also - I love every reaction... and yorkies SURE CAN react to things can't they ? I expecially love after being groomed how hot they think they look - Chanel will hold her head a little higher and make sure her daddy sees how pretty she looks.... and Cheri will race around like she just won the lottery - Yorkies are a very special breed..... |
Me too !! I look forward to Saturdays when I give Desi a bath and comb her hair, etc. She hates it but I sure do love it ! :) |
Schatzie enjoys her grooming and training time...It's extra attention all spent on her and she thrives for it! :D I'm sure having treats involved makes her happy also. :p The grooming/training time is a special "bonding moment" between yourself and your fur baby. It's very positive!! :aimeeyork |
I guess I am an offender. Stewie does NOT want to cooperate at all. I was just complaining on the phone to my mom because he was a little jerk during his bath :) I do, however, love to teach him new tricks! It's so much fun for both of us! |
Yep' bathing and training is part and parcel of owning one of those little sweethearts,If you don't want to bath and groom them and spend the time to potty train them get a cat! |
I love sitting around brushing Gidget! And she loves it too! She will sit there and let me do it all day long if I would! :D But I agree I love doing those things too! |

BrowniesMom --- You are absolutely right. I have also noticed a lot of us complaining about our little dogs just being dogs. We spend far too much time being concerned about things that are natural puppy/doggie behavior. Many of these things they outgrow - others can be modified with training. BUT - we do have little dogs - and they have the right to behave like dogs behave. We, at least, have to meet them half way. I get a kick out of some people going bonkers because their little puppy pee'd on the carpet. They absolutely panic. This behavior is totally unacceptable to them and they don't know what to do next .....like it was a total surprise that a puppy would do that! We get out little Yorkies, buy them more clothes than we have, carry them around like babies, spoil them rotten, bath them, groom them, put bows in their hair, and talk to them in babytalk --and not all, but some of us, almost expect them to be little babies - not puppies! For sure, there are also a lot of us who play with our puppies, enjoy them, let them be little dogs, and love them to pieces in spite of it. They may still wear clothes and have bows in their hair, but we remember we have a little dog - not a little person. I'll tell you - no one can love and enjoy their little Yorkie more than I do, but he can be hell on wheels. He often pees and poops where he shouldn't. He chews things he shouldn't. He just does all the things that little puppies do. I think half my housework is cleaning up after my two dogs and one bird. But, I knew what I was in for before I brought these pets home. And, don't think we don't spend a lot of time training and trying to modify behavior around here. We do! My puppy will outgrow a lot of things he's doing now, and with luck learn not to do others, but he's always going to be a loveable, adorable, little dog. If you can't stand the heat ---never have children or pets!!! (That was supposed to be a joke!) I'm having a lot of people over tonight (Christmas Eve), and my puppy got on the coffee table (never did that before), and managed to disperse a large bowl of potato chips all over the front room (furniture too) ....millions of little pieces! What fun he had!!! Carol Jean |
I love grooming too! ......but sometimes Im so busy my yorkies get a bit matted at the ends! Inside....outside......long coats.....cttony texture some. This may not be a new product for many of you but I got a comb (mat breaker) has teeth shaped like a claw with little blades on the curl.........doesnt shorten the length of the coat but takes care of those pesty mattings nicely. What took me forevvvvverrr to do, is a snap and alot less painful for my babies by me pulling, tugging, spraying. |

I do disagree that people expect their Yorkies to be babies instead of dogs. I think they expect them to be dolls instead of dogs. |
FirstYorkie -- Good reply. I hope people don't think their Yorkies are "dolls." That's even worse yet - because dolls don't poop, pee, bite, or even move. At least "babies" do that much. But, you are right anyway - They are little dolls a lot of the time -- and dogs the rest! And don't we love dogs!!!! Yes - yes - yes!! Have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!!!!!
