I think the act of De-Barking a Dog is absolutely criminal ! If someone doesn't like to hear barking, then get a Dog which doesn't do that naturally, or get a Cat. Hearing of stuff like this really ticks me off ! |
I'll judge those that debark dogs. To take that animal's only effective way of communicating in the closed in environment they have to live in to comply with humans' wants and no way to express himself other than to whine or moan or bark to say hi, or a stranger is near, or I'm scared or I'm so lonely or I'm hungry, I'm itching, mom, need to pee or any of those things is just criminal. If one cannot manage to work a bit with their dog to teach it some basics, one of which is when to be quiet, then they don't deserve a dog. Dogs should get to have some dignity and at least a voice for goodness sake! All in the world it takes is some time, loving teaching and praise/treat and they learn impulse control. It's not hard. Do dogs have to give up absolutely everything to fit in with the humans that are supposed to love and steward them? Are we supposed doglovers really so in love with our dogs we take their very voice? |
I had no idea this type of stuff goes on! Metal rods down their throats?!?!. :cry8:These poor babies. I'm just....speechless. And my DH doesn't call me mouth of the south for nothing. |
I have had many fosters that have been debarked..Im still in touch with theirs owners and so far none have gotten their voice back. Many of the ones I had were so severe the vet felt it was done by the breeder at home :( Its very sad but is the reality in many breeding situations. |
How awful....we met a couple that had 3 hotdog dogs and had them debarked, it was the most pitiful thing......they tried to bark and it was heartbreaking. |

Don't know how common AKC breeders debark but I'm glad the 4 I know in my area don't |
