Some questions about my Yorkie! Hi, I'm a new yorkie mom and have a lot to learn. Can someone help me? 1. Lexi scratched but I can't find any fleas..what could it be from? 2. Where I live there are tons of black flies . During the day it's hot hot so I don't want to take her for a walk incase she gets too exausted. But at night, there are tons of black flies where I live and I don't want them to bite her. What should I do? |
Hi and welcome to YT! Wow. I didn't think it was that warm anywhere just yet. LOL Afraid I don't have any advice to give but the scratching could be an allergy to food, hair care products and other things, I believe. I will bump this so others will see it and you can get some help. Good luck. I hope everything is ok. |
Where in Canada are you? I'm in South Central Ontario...we are only at approx. 21-24C here. Beautiful weather. It drops down to about 12 at night...too cold for black flies....we don't have them where we are. It is flea season...do you have your pup on a flea preventative....if not I would suggest you get something from your vet....mosquitos are already out....Mine are all on Revolution...no issues with it at all. |
Please check the food you are using. If it has soy, wheat or corn some dogs are allergic to that stuff. Mine eat Blue Buffalo Chicken base. Alot of times it is the food that gets them scratching. Also use a very mild hypo-allergenic shampoo. I use Hy-lyte I get from my vet. Ihope this scratching stops soon. |
Hello, I found a flea on her, only one but there's probably more . I need to find a good flea shampoo for her and I live In the northbay Sudbury area. |
It's been up to 27C here |

Wash all of her bedding and yours if she sleeps with you, and vacuum everywhere you have carpeting. You can treat your yard with Diatomaceous Earth, the pup can also be treated with this....make sure it is food grade. This stuff will kill the fleas. I used it last year in my yard as well as Revolution...not one flea after about two weeks.....I had a full blown infestation....three yorkies and at the time three cats! They were miserable and so was I...fleas don't care who they bite...human or animal, its all food to them...found that out when I got bitten. That's how I found out I had fleas...had to ban the animals from the bedroom until I got it under control! |
