Seperation anxiety?? I currently work as a floor nurse and work 3 twelve hr shifts a week, I will be starting a new job in a month that I will be working 5 days a week 8 hr days! My DH works 8 hrs so the days that I work he tends to Mia when he gets off. My problem is... When I'm off and at home with Mia all day, she's wonderful, she faithfully uses her pee pads, but the days that I work she stays in her Xpen with plenty off toys, but shreds her pee pad! And when he lets her out after he gets home from work she pees and poops anywhere in the house!! I feel as though its seperation anxiety! She's only 6 mths old and I don't feel as though its safe to let her have run of the house while we're at work! I'm just looking for advice as to how to prepare her for my new work schedule! Or maybe is she old enough to leave her out all day while we're gone?? When I get home I spend a lot of time loving on her and playing with her! Do y'all think its truly seperation anxiety or maybe just lack of exercise on those days?? Thanks in advance!! |
Max liked to play with his piddle pads when he was a pup, but he grew out of it. Sounds like Mia has pent up energy with a little bit of separation anxiety. Instead of the xpen, try giving her one room. I wouldn't give her run of the house. Trainers often say that dogs feel overwhelmed when they have to "defend" an entire house. Boundaries give them comfort, but maybe an xpen is too small for boundaries for Mia. Limiting freedom also helps with potty habits/training. |
Princess Sophie has begun tearing her pads up a bit now too. It sounds like it might be separation anxiety. Do you have an x-pen for her to stay in when you and your DH are not home? If not you might want to invest in one. I have seen many and they are recommended by a lot of people here on YT. We just have a playpen for Princess Sophie an it holds her crate (where she can lay down and sleep), food and water, as well as potty pads. It works for us but some people like to use the pen that has one side for them to lay down on and play and another side where the pee pad is located. This may not solve your problem of your baby "shredding" the pee pads but it will keep her from having too much room to run if not yet ready for that much freedom. We also have been tethering Princess Sophie when we are home so we always know what she's doing and where she's at. No accidents this way. Let us know what you decide to do and good luck!! I have a richell pen..It has a bed, play and food area AND a. pee side. Jess is always in there when we are out and she is over a year old. You can use fabric pee pads you can get at walmart in the baby section. It expands as they get older up to over 5 feet long |
