My Yorkie is sick!!So confused!! Hi everyone I am new to the forum and would like some advice as to how to help my Yorkie Moka. He is 3 years old and was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with intestinal lymphangiectasia. He started with diarrhea and vomiting and a horrible honking cough we brought him to the vet and after ultrasounds, xrays and blood tests they confirmed this diagnosis. He is currently taking 5mg of prednisone twice a day and .15ml of cyclosporine. His food has changed to Royal Canine low fat diet. I would like to know if anyone else has a Yorkie with this disease and how they are feeding their Yorkie. I heard you can also supplement with homemade food but my vet doesn't seem too knowledgeable in this area other than to recommend the low fat dog food. He seems to be better in that he has stopped his diarrhea ,cough or choking sound gone and has vomited only once but he seems tired, and is very thirsty and cannot control his bladder very well, which is a side effect of prednisone. Any advice would be helpful !!!!!Thank You |
You should post this in the sick and injured section. More people will see it there that can help. I'll bump it for you, but that's all the help I can offer :( |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I am very sorry to hear that Moka and you are dealing with this health problem. The dogs who have this do best when a certified vet nutritionist is consulted to work up a diet plan. I'm sure others knowledgeable in this area will post this same advice. |
Moka Thank you both !!! |
I am so sorry that you are going through this sending prayers for you and your little one. |
I would contact a board certified veterinary nutritionist for recommendations. I use and would recommend Dr. Rebecca Remillard. She works with your veterinarian and the cost for her to review the records and formulate a diet is $250 currently. Her website is PetDiets - VNC putting pets' health first!. You also can check out the American College of Veterinary Nutrition website for other nutritionists. I'm not sure if there are any others in Canada. LadyJane a member here has a dog with lymphangectasia and has a thread in the sick and injured section. You can search for it and read about her dog or just message her. |
