Potty training crate question, ideas or opinions welcome ! Hey guys ! So Martini has been wonderful so far! She has no gone on our floor since the first day she was home. She goes on the pee pad in her playpen every time we put her in there and when we out her in her crate at night she doesn't even cry upon going in anymore. She starts crying around 2-3am usually because she needs to go potty. I take her to the pad she immediately goes then starts hopping for me to get her out to go back to bed. She does this again around 6ish same deal she does potty back In crate until about 730 when mom is up for the day. Twice though she has pooped in her crate. This morning I went to get her out at 7ish and she had pooped in her crate and even went as far to hide it under her snuggle pet stuffed puppy-warmer. So I'm wondering if she can hold her pee every time (not even once gone in her crate) and even wakes me up because she has to go why isn't she pooping when I put her down at that time ? Is holding poop harder then pee for them? Also she has gone poop on her pad numerous times. Just trying to figure out how I should approach the accidents or if it just takes time ? Thank you guys ! |
im gonna guess she just really had to go and either couldnt or didnt wake you. did it look like she ate any of it?? just curious...as keylo is my first poop eater baby and she will go and hide it for later sometimes. it is better now but was a bigger problem when i didnt realize. now i gently say leave it and she does. but anyway sorry to go on just be aware incase that is what she is doing. |
Sounds like Miss Martini is doing pretty well. I would suggest that if you haven't already decreased the amount of room she has in her crate, you might want to try that. They only need enough room to turn around and lay down. We put a cardboard box covered with a beach towel in Princess Sophie's crate and she has never peed or pooped inside. Let me know if you have already done this. If so, I don't know what else to recommend but someone else might. Good luck!! |

She is doing very well with the peeing for such a small pup. I do think it will take more time for her to control her body when it comes to pooping. My Teddy had a sense of urgency up to a year, but he has access to a pad at all times. Max had control much earlier. The only thing I can think of to suggest is to keep her out of her crate longer early in the morning and near her pad. I remember puppy days waking up at 5 am and losing sleep. :p |
I know this isn't really advice. I think your pup is doing very well for her age. Julia pees on her pee pad almost every time, once in awhile she pees out side. She almost always poops out side rarely on her pee pad. That is just her style. When she was young she pooped in in her crate several times. She is 11 months old and hasn't done in a long time. |
No real advice. I didn't have this issue with Bentley. But I did want to say all things considered she's doing great. |
