Obsessing over grooming appt. I think I've lost my mind, I was never a dog person but since I've gotten Ellie I obsess about her like she's my child! Haha. She has an appointment Friday with a new groomer who's a bit of a distance away. They told me drop off is between 7:30 and 9:00 am and pick her up at 2:00! I'm afraid Since Ellie has separation anxiety that he's going to freak out being away from us all that time. This groomer is supposed to be one of the best in my area, she is a show dog groomer. I'm also scared someone will be mean to her since she doesn't like being groomed . Tell me I'm being silly because I'm consumed with this! |
I also want to know what others say about this, because I am pretty sure I will not want to drop my baby and pick him up hours later. I want to be right there watching them >:-[ |
Its so hard to know who to trust with the babies. I've been looking for a groomer for quite a while and just haven't been happy with anybody we have tried. The situation is so stressful that I am seriously considering going to grooming school myself. Any advice? Thanks, Shannon |
we recently did a grooming for all three of mine and i was in panic attack mode myself. they were there all day but they came home looking beautiful. i sent pictures of each of them and discussed what made them afraid and a bit about each of their personalitlies and exactly what i wanted done. over all everything went really well and they did great....dont get me wrong they were thrilled to come home. but i feared all these same things and everything turned out great and i will go back when they need to be trimmed up. ;) i think stressing how important they are to you and making sure they have a good experience makes them understand your on the lookout to be sure your baby is treated like a prince or a princess. best wishes. |
I drop off morgan off at his groomers also and it has never been a problem. he loves everybody and is so excited to see new people |
I took Blazer to a groomer once- his first time. Everything seemed to go fine, his cut was ok, but I really didn't like the drop off/pick up later thing. I started grooming him myself after that (I watched a TON of YouTube videos to get over my jitters, plus watched a mobile groomer groom my neighbors' dogs.) I really enjoy our grooming time now and I can keep Blazer looking how I want him. |
I would recommend a consult with any groomer that you are thinking of taking your babies to. I absolutely adore my groomer, Rosemarie. We had an initial meeting before Sam's first groom. I got a chance to see how she handled him, and how he reacted to her. I showed her pictures and she asked all the right questions. I don't have to worry about him being there a long time. Rosemarie doesn't stack grooming appointments or do early drop offs. Your appointment time is when she starts working, and she calls as soon as they are finished. And she does a great job. I've seen several of her client pups, from puppy cuts to full show grooms, and they have all been beautiful. |
I did not leave Pixie at the groomers until she was over a yr old. I read too many horror stories:( So I use to bring pixie to the groomer and stay and hold her or stand by her while the groomer trimmed her up. If you can find someone that is willing to allow you to do that. I was not comfortable leaving Pixie at all so I didn't until I was comfortable. It is your baby and you need to do what is best for you. If you don't feel comfortable leaving her than listen to that and don't. |
I like to have my groomer come to my home. That way I can watch her and I do not like to take my boys out to the petshop. They can pick up bugs and disease. I do not like them shoved into a cage with a hot dryer on them. Am I picky? Yes, these are precious Yorkies. They must be given lots of love and some groomers, sorry to say are mean and hit them with the hairbrush. My Tuffy came home so skiddish I could never take him to those strange groomers. I must know who is working on my Yorkie and trust them. |
Ive been going to the same groomer for yrs and its always been drop off in the late morning to afternoon and pick up in the evening. My groomer is a good one and its hard to find good groomers that cut your dog the way you want |
I understand being nervous. My main concern would be having confidence in the groomer. As long as the groomer is good, I think your pup will be fine with the separation. It's good to start them out younger. |
I know it's proably good for her seperation anxiety to be away from us so she'll learn that we come back. It's just me being nervous not knowing this groomer and where I live there are not that many groomer's so I can't be too picky and I don't want to go to Petco or Petsmart. |
Mine did it at my door I had the same fears as you! Give her praise when she goes in. But don't make a fuss leaving, x |
