thank you, you to! Ive wanted one for so long but people just want $100's of dollars and dont get me wrong they are well worth it i just cant afford to pay like $800 for one lol but good luck to you cant wait till we can share pics of our new yorkies when we get one :)!

A bargain Yorkie puppy is almost always not a bargain. They usually end up costing a couple thousand or more in health problems in the first few months or year. :(

Sorry to sound like a bummer, but many people here can tell you about the pitfalls of buying a bargain Yorkie. Breeders selling for low prices don't do the genetic testing of their breeding dogs and cut many corners.

Often these pups go home with coccidia, giardia, mites, and other problems. These can cost lots of $$$ to treat. Some of these problems can be life threatening or lifelong problems.

Then there is luxating patella (knee problems that can require surgery) and liver shunts (a life threatening a very expensive problem).

Oh yes i completely understand that i have an english bulldog and they have many problems that can be created if you do not keep up with there maintenance, like bacteria can grow between there wrinkles if you dont clean them, and hip dsyplacia, also not to mention they can be lazy so they need plenty of excersise and cannot be in the heat for too long or they will get heatstroke. An expensive breed that needs alot of attention just like yorkies. But..i learn something everyday about yorkies and they are a very facinating breed, thank you for clarifying that for me :)

It's not only maintenance, but good breeding. Find a good breeder. You don't have to spend $2,000 for a well bred Yorkie. If you are patient and do a lot of searching, you can find a show breeder who holds back puppies for evaluation. The ones who aren't show quality are released as pets for a pretty good price.

Good breeders normally want $1000 to $1500 and even then they don't break even a lot of times. It takes a lot of money to do health testing, genetic testing, wellness care of mom, keeping pups until 12 weeks, wellness care for pups, tail docking, dew claws, supply's, time, and unexpected vet care. The people who sell pups for less arn't normally doing things right and you can end up with a sick pup or a pup with a genetic illness. A pup can appear healthy but later on is when genetic illnesses can pop up. A pup from a reputable breeder is worth a lot of money.

Well it's not just things the human needs to do it has to do with breeding. Not doing the right tests and puting two dogs together who don't have a free history of illnesses can cause a pup to have illnesses and be sick.

Wow im learning all kinds of things, thank you so much guys, and ill keep that in mind, i just have to be patient, but it's just so hard ive been searching for quite a bit of time and they are just so adorable but....in time i just have to wait but in the mean time ill just sit back and learn more about this breed.

:thumbup: As someone wrote on another thread earlier, keep searching but don't make it a deadline kind of thing and when you least expect it, the right pup will come along. That is how it happened for me.

This forum is fantastic for learning about the breed and caring for them. I would have been lost without the knowledgeable people here.

I try to tell people about good breeders because my baby who I love and would not trade for anything came from a broker who got there pups from a puppy mill and all I knew at the time was I thought puppy mill pups only come from pet stores boy was I wrong. She has had many issues and to me it's a lot more then the cost of those issues it was having to watching her be uncomfortable and in pain because some one just wanted money. This website is so great in info. :)

i love this forum lol and yes i understand i got my english bulldog as a rescue and he was abused and it saddens me when i move to quickly and he flinches like someone hits him, and he has scars from his abuser from being stuck in cage, i thank god every day for rescuing him he's my baby!

Poor baby. Thank you for giving him a loving home. Rescue is another way to go with Yorkies too.

Oh poor baby. My mom rescued a Yorkie and my mom brings him over on Callie's bath day and I bathe him to and when I get him wet I can see all the scars on his body it makes me so sad for him and then mad at who could do that to a poor animal.

Aww thats sad and I know, i think to myself who can do that to innocent animals, i mean i want to have my own pet rescue so i can help poor animals that have been abused its so sad and im just glad i have him in my life, and yess i definetely want to rescue one!
