Safe lawn treatment? What is a good product to treat the yard with for the summer months? The mosquitoes are already out in force. We've already had to treat in the house for ants and in the garage for wasps. The thread about fire ants scares the crap out of me! I noticed some hills in one section of the yard a couple of days ago, but not sure what type. And with all the loose dogs running the neighborhood, fleas are a big concern. In the past, we've used a general pesticide on the lawn and not thought too much about it. But with Sarah and Sam being so little, I don't know what to use now. Suggestions? |
We use this one. EcoSmart 10 lb. Lawn Insect Killer Granules-33114 at The Home Depot EcoSmart 10 lb. Lawn Insect Killer Granules It works wonderful!! We get really bad bees and wasps in our grass.. Pnut has been stung by stepping on them 2 times. Since we have been using this, I don’t see any insects in our lawn No bees or wasps anywhere! You put the granules in the grass and then wet it a little.. it smells really strong for a couple days. It is a great product!! |
Thanks! I'll check it out my next trip to Home Depot. I need to pick up some mulch anyway. About how long does one application last? With all the rain we're having right now, it seems like it would be gone in no time! |
We only use it starting spring.. it will last us all spring/summer season. Just make sure when you first put it on don’t over water it- it calls for a tiny bit of water. |
This is very safe: Diatomaceous Earth for Flea Control - Flea Control |
This is awesome! I'm so happy this thread was posted. Thanks for the tip, Deanna! I've been going bonkers since last summer with the bees and stuff and I've worried about ticks. I'm going to Home Depot on the way home from work!! :) |

I'm hoping that if I get it down now, I will prevent any new bee/yellow jacket/wasp hives from being started in my yard. That was our problem last year when Mandie got stung..we had hives in holes in our yard. |

Every year I have to spray the yard because of mosquitoes. I use just a general pesticide spray and it works great, once it is done there are no mosquitoes or any bugs. It is toxic when wet but it says once dry it is completely safe. So I usually do half the yard one day and the other half the next that way I can still safely take them outside to go potty. I do love how well it works just wish it was slightly safer. We have a few stray cats around here yet never any fleas because of treating the yard. |
According to reviews on Amazon and looking at EcoSmart's website, it doesn't look like this works for mosquitoes. They do have another treatment specifically for mosquitoes and ticks. That's a disappointment. |
Along the same lines...Is there a "pet" safe lawn fertilizer out there? We have hot dry summers here, and the lawn gets fertilized at least 3 times during the season to stay green. |
