Sleep in a crate or in the bed? I've heard good about both. What do you guys do for your sleeping arrangements? Crate or bed? |
Pixie slept in a crate next to my bed until she was about 6 months old bc I didn't want her to fall off the bed or I was afraid of rolling over on her being so small. Now both my dogs sleep with me and they sometimes can be bed hogs. lol |
Definitely a crate beside the bed when a puppy, both for safety reasons (you could roll over and squash the puppy, or it could fall off the bed and injure itself) and for potty training reasons (you don't want the puppy peeing in the bed or getting off the bed and peeing on the floor). I would recommend keeping a puppy in a crate at night at least until it's potty trained and can hold it overnight. Or, you could have a pen beside the bed with both sleeping quarters and a potty pad. But sleeping with you in the bed, no, not until it's an adult. |
Bed from day 1 (7.5 weeks old) between us to prevent falls. Never had an accident in the bed. We started him in the crate, but had him in the bed by morning. Couldn’t help it...he was so cute and sweet, and our old 100lb dog had slept in the bed too. |
Depends on age and potty habits. If they are already potty trained and have no need to be let out during the night to go potty than a be should be fine. If not than a cage would be better. You have to be certain that they are not teething and wont wonder off and chew on thing in the night plus decide to get out of their bed and lay in the pathway and possibly get stepped on. Sometimes its best to leave a pup in their cage for their own safety plus until they are done with potty training and all the puppy stuff. |
Jasper is 16 weeks and sleeps in a crate by the bed. I'm scared he will jump off during the night and get hurt. He will sleep there until he is neutered and over his surgery around 6-1/2 months. Then I hope he will know how to use his bed steps or he can choose to sleep in his new bed we will have for him. :) |
I started Bentley out in a crate. Probably about 13 or 14 weeks ( I got him at 10) I introduced him to the bed. It was interesting at first. And there were some nites he was put back in his crate because he wanted to play when I was ready to sleep. But now he sleep full time unless he decides every once in a while that bedtime means bite mommy's head instead of sleep. And If I crate him, he's fine with going in there for the nite (most of the time I get him in the middle of the night lol). Waking up to puppy kisses is a nice way to wake up. But sometimes he wants to play right away and waking up to a yorkie literally jumping on your head is like waking up to a bucket of ice water. lol You will find what's right for you and your baby. :D |
Callie sleeps in a soft sided crate about a foot or two away from my bed. It stays open has a blanket over it so the fan doesn't blow on her making her cold. It has a nice soft bed in there, a extremely soft blanket, a little pillow for her to snuggle up to, and a dog bed heater thing under the blankets. She has stairs to get on my bed but I am always afraid I am gonna push her off the bed and I think she worries about that to and only gets up on the bed if I am sick or if she is sick or not feeling well. I really plush out her crate so it's very comfy for her everyone who sees it says they wanna sleep in there lol |
In bed with us since day 1 day 5months. I love having her in bed with us. |
I think it's a matter of personal preference. Some can't sleep with them in bed due to fear of the babies getting hurt, or potting in bed. Others, like me, can't sleep without them in bed. I just can't sleep unless he's near me. |

In a crate, we tried having him in bed with us but even in between the both of us he would move around and eventually end up on the side and he fell out once and that was one time too many for me (especially because my bed is so high). He doesn't mind his crate, plus he was wetting the bed and he's done really well in the crate. I just put a dogbed in there for him now that he's better at holding it all night. |
I personally do not like animals on bed when sleeping, I like my leg room, so my boys are crate trained, and sleep next to my bed |

Same here. For now Louie sleeps in his crate at night but when he's bigger he'll join the rest of us in the bed. Genea |
