Back Sliding Jasper was doing so great with his pee pads. Now hes tee teeing on the carpet and last night he pooped on the living room floor, which isn't carpeted. I didn't see him do it but my DH stepped in it this morning. We haven't changed anything. Suggestions anyone? What am I doing wrong??? |
I don't think you are probably doing anything wrong. Princess Sophie did so well throughout the 3rd week that we had her and I got cocky and thought...well this will be a snap! Then all he__ broke loose and everything went to pot...so to speak. LOL We're still working on it. Got #1 down but still struggling with #2. I have not been disciplined enough to keep her tethered to me during the day. My bad!!! |
Thank you...I needed the encouragement I guess. The little stinker!! :p |
Sometimes they do that... might just need to go back to keeping him confined to the room you're in, or a smaller area. |

In time, successful training can train this out of a dog just like we train other things we don't like out of them. But it will take a while to retrain the dog's natural behavior inclination. One thing to do is increase the pads in the chosen area and put cardboard sheets or boxes or gates around the area they mostly live in and watch them nonstop during their first year of housebreaking. That's right - watch their every move around their anticipated pee/potty times and confine them when you can - for a year. My last two dogs I trained this way and both were so trained they won't even go when at the vet in the cages unless they are taken outside. They will hold it 12 hours and longer. I wish they wouldn't and I do leave potty pads down when I leave the house but they are never used when I come back. |
they do backslide..I sometimes think they just do it to see how you will react. I realized my "good girl" voice was the same as my NO No bad girl voice...So now when (very rarely) she makes a mistake I pick her up show it to her and say firm but loud and low No no and put her in her crate and ignore her. When she goes in her crate pee pad she gets a treat, high happy voice and play time with me, even if its just a couple minutes if Im busy.. |
All of your advice makes total sense. Ive put up the baby gate to seperate him from one end of the house and shut doors to other rooms. I put down more pads, too. Now lets see what kind of day we have. Thanks so much everybody!! :) |
You've gotten great advice. I just wanted to post and reinforce the statement that it happens. Mandie regressed twice since I've had her. Yorkies truly are a unique breed. I have the hardest time with her than any other dog I ever had. I remember not being here very long and posting and bragging about how fast Mandie potty trained. It's like she saw me write that and decided to play tricks on me lol |

Terri and Spiritwings y'all are making me giggle! Just like human children aren't they...when you brag or try to show-off what they've learned, they don't cooperate. Haha :p |
hehe..that's my Mandie. She does it when she feels it is convenient. :D |
:wub:I always tell myself what is a lil poop among friends!:dribble::dribble: |
But gosh aren't they just adorable??? :p I bought some spray for the pee pads and Jasper did #1 on it. But pooped on the carpet. Grrr We're working on it though. At least he teed on the pad again, right? :D lol |
