Sentinel + Advantix II = ? Hi Everyone, I've asked this question on another thread but didn't get an answer so here I ask again hoping someone can answer. Getting to the point. Is anyone using the combo of Sentinel and Advantix II? Since Sentinel already has flea meds I'm bit worried I'd be over medicating with Advantix II. I'm not worried about fleas in my area but ticks are a concern. Also, anyone use Interceptor Spectrum? I've read in random forums that they work just as good as US Interceptor. Any thoughts/inputs? |
I don't use those products but I would be very concerned about overdosing, extremely concerned. |
I use Sentinel and Comfortitis with mine. They get the Sentinel and then two weeks later I give them the Comfortitis. Sentinel has a Flea Birth Control in it that only sterilizes the flea, it doesn't kill them, just makes them unable to produce. I have never had a problem using this combination. |
From the Advantix II website: For dogs in need of complete pest coverage, look to K9 Advantix II. K9 Advantix II helps repel and kill ticks, fleas and mosquitoes while preventing the development of all flea life stages. This full featured pest control formula contains imidacloprid, permethrin, and pyriproxyfen. Imidacloprid and permethrin paralyze and kill pests by attacking the nerve cells of the parasites. Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth regulator that helps stop fleas from developing into advanced stages of life. From the Sentinel website: Description:SENTINEL Flavor Tabs are available in four tablet sizes in color-coded packages for oral administration to dogs and puppies according to their weight. (See Dosage Section.) Each tablet is formulated to provide a minimum of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) of milbemycin oxime and 4.55 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) body weight of lufenuron. Milbemycin oxime consists of the oxime derivatives of 5-didehydromilbemycins in the ratio of approximately 80% A4 (C32H45NO7, MW 555.71) and 20% A3 (C31H43NO7, MW 541.68). Milbemycin oxime is classified as a macrocyclic anthelmintic. Lufenuron is a benzoylphenylurea derivative with the following chemical composition: N-[2,5-dichloro- 4-(1,1,2,3,3,3,-hexafluoropropoxy)- phenylaminocarbonyl]-2,6 - difluorobenzamide (C17 H8 CI2F8N2O3 ,MW511.15). Benzoylphenylurea compounds, including lufenuron, are classified as insect development inhibitors (IDIs). ----------------------------------- It looks like Advantix II has flea killers and flea growth inhibitors, whereas Sentinel has dewormer and flea growth inhibitors. I'm not sure how toxic the growth inhibitors are in combination--best to check with a vet first. |
Dont know the answer, but I would surely check with my vet first. |
I used Sentinal for many years, alone, with excellent results. But, I treat my yard also, so I have never had a flea issue....never seen a tick around here....I worry about all the toxic drugs we have to give our babies to prevent heartworms, then fleas, then ticks, worms, then there are the vaccines.....I think I would feel more comfortable using Revolution, which is one drug that kills fleas, ticks, ear mites, and heartworms, without having to combine multiple other drugs. Personally, I alternate Revolution and Canimax,,,,this gives me a very broad spectrum of parasite preventative, they are given individually, not doubled up, and they are rotated in order to prevent the dogs from getting an "immunity" or tolerance to either drug. This has worked super for me and my group, I have never had an issue with any of the fleas, ticks, earmites, or worms, including tape worms....and I always put the Revolution around a 1.5 inch area on the shoulder blade area, so it does not go on the same exact spot every time....that helps me think it wont be irritating the same exact spot every month, which may not even be an issue.....just is more acceptable to me. |
Revolution does not kill Lyme ticks. Anyway, Sentinel and regular Advantix. You do not need Advantix II. |
Thanks for all the inputs... Ellie: I didn't think of regular advantix so that's a good suggestion. But you don't think the flea meds in both Sentinel and regular advantix would be an over kill? |

Unless someone has any feedback/info on Interceptor Spectrum, I think my next best choice would be what Ellie May suggested. Sentinel + regular Advantix it is! Thanks!!! |
I use to, but I stopped the Sentinel. I now just use the Advantix II with no issues. |
