Puppy biting and growling Please tell me the proper way of correcting my little 4 month old tasmanian devil!! (LOL) She is really a sweetheart but if she want to go down or doesn't like brushing she starts to growl and bite. I heard shaking a can of pennies to distract her or a quick spray of water might help but I would like some yorkie mommies to tell me what they think. After all she is my baby and I must teach her proper manners!!! |
I had the same problem, the answer was doggie school, helped my pup and me to understand each other. It worked! Obedience Training is the best thing we ever did for us and for our pup. |
Jasmine was doing the same thing, but as she is getting older, she nibbles, instead of biting, and starts licking, afterwards. Is your puppy, drawing blood? |
Princess Sophie does the biting thing if she's not happy being combed out so we use treats to distract her. It works great, keeps her mouth busy and we get done in 1/2 the time! LOL:D Boiled chicken works best for us! |
Thank you everybody-no blood. She looks so cute when she gets all excited and growls but I need to break her of this habit. She is tiny-4 months and 1.2 lbs. and a little tiger!!! Really sweet though so I hope it is just a puppy phase. |
Nena never did that, she was very calm..she used to bark when we were playing but never growled or bit me.. Rufus on the other hand had a period when he used to growl and bit me..once drew blood..I guess he was testing me to see who the pack leader was lol :D So every time he growled or tried to bit, I stopped him and gave him time-out until he grew out of it... It seems cute because she's so small but try to stop it. Even though she is small and cute, she is still a dog :) |
Thanks Anny I will try that. I am working on it and already she seems a little better. So cute and love that yorkie personality! I do believe she is testing me also! |
