My Banana ate a Button!!! It was an awful day yesterday. My 15 week old Banana ate a button that fell off my hubby's coat. As fast as it dropped to the floor she gobbled it up. When I put my finger in the mouth she swallowed it. I called the vet and she said to give he 5cc or 1 tbsp of peroxide to induce vomiting. Well she heaved and puked and heaved and puked like 8 times and the last thing to come out was the button. My baby was covered in puke and so frightened. I cleaned her up and called the vet back to let her know. Banana didn't eat the whole day and finally ate this morning. I have been putting her in the play pen to rest and nap yesterday and today. It took a lot out of her. This morning while she ate and then slept I cried and cried. I can't get her little scared face out of my head while she was puking. Poor baby!!! |
Aww, I am so sorry the two of you had to go through this. Glad you got it fixed, though. You are a good momma! |
Oh no! Bless her heart! I'm so glad the button did come out though. That much puking could dehydrate Banana and they go down so unbelievably fast if they dehydrate. Have you done anything to help restore her fluids? If not, I recommend getting a medicine dropper or syringe and some clear pedialyte. Give her a couple of droppers full throughout the day. Just to supplement her water intake. (this is what i would do anyway). Feel better, Miss Banana!! And, no more buttons for you kiddo! |
Oh I would have been scared to death!! So glad she is okay! These little yorkies are fast and can find the smallest of things!! Get some much needed rest! Hugs :) |
I would be crying right along with you. I'm so happy that your baby is safe. I always worry when I am taking any meds as I know that if it drops, Sophie will get it. Just makes you so paranoid. Happy this story ends well!! |
I'm glad she's alright. It's so scary when things like that happen.. I feel bad for you both.. Genea |
Oh my goodness, Banana. I'm glad you are ok and was able to get rid of the button. Scary. |
Thanks for such nice words. I have been mixing water on with her wet food and she is gobbling it up as we speak. We both had a long 2 hr nap today. My god it took so much out of us both! I just love her so much. I couldn't emagine anything happening to her. When it was happening I just about had a heart attack. In fact I jump over the baby gate so fast my little toe go caught on the door frame. It's black cause I bent it sideways. I went to the doctor and he said I broke it. I can't even put my shoe on. But it's over and she seems better. I am still keeping things quite around the house so she rests. |
Oh ya and I have been giving her ice cubes. She just loves them! |

Awww, Bananas shouldn't have buttons! :( Glad she is better, tho. Sounds like YOU got the worst of the deal. Feel better!!! |
I have always had the understanding that you should not induce vomiting for a foreign object. If it gets lodged in the throat coming back up the poor baby could choke. Not to mention the effects of the vomiting it's self on a puppy. I'm glad you baby is OK. Maybe tighten up the buttons on your husband's coat! I hope she continues to improve. I know how fast they are and love to put things in their mouths. |
How scary! I'm actually surprised your vet told you to induce vomiting for a button. Was it a fairly small button? I probably would've just let something like that pass.... I think you're also only supposed to give peroxide twice, I think, and no more? Jax ate a piece of a lego once and pooped it out the next day  Stupid dogs and eating things! lol. Glad all is okay. :) |
