As for where they nest, can be almost anywhere, trees, building ledges, power poles, whatever is safest from nest predators. The fact you're seeing this bird regularly indicates it has a territory there which includes possible nesting. |

Yes, they do mate for life. If one dies, they'll find a new monogamous mate for the duration. I know both parents in hawkcam nest right now. Kinda unusual, but sweet! The male doesn't want to leave. :) Almost shielding Mom from the rain. |

If anybody is interested in this cam, it's at Cornell U, in NY. This pair has nested there for years, and it's the second year they have two HD nestcams + a chat. The third baby just hatched this morning & they are adorable!! Cornell Lab Bird Cams | Virtual Bird Watching at its Best! |

I watched the Decorah Eagles… Their last eaglets they had, I watched from hatching to leaving the nest. I even got my manager watching it, we would even watch them at work LOL!!! We were really sad when the juveniles left the nest.. but really happy at the same time. It is truly amazing to watch. More so because you don’t get to see them at all LOL only when they are “hunting our babies” we don’t get to see the good side. |

I do occasionally go to ustream and watch the various birds hatch their eggs. Last year I was watching some eagles taking care of their young, and it is fascinating, but then I started seeing the parts of dead animals around and lost interest. This time of year I can look up into the trees and see the larger nests used by the bigger birds so I have an idea where they are hanging out. I only see one really big one and I suspect it may be the owls house. I'm sure if I went for a walk on the trails I would see a lot more. |
It's good that you are aware. I agree the carnage can be a bit much at times! :) |
Wow I learn something everyday. :) |
